Sri Lanka needs the Kandy highway to be completed, because it is one of the most important projects that will help reduce traffic congestion and help economic development. The Kandy highway project is the most important development project in SL.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says the government will construct the Rambukkana-Galagedara and Kurunegala-Dambulla expressways without obtaining new loans. The President said the Rambukkana-Galagedara Expressway is already underway using domestic government funds, while construction of the Kurunegala-Dambulla Expressway is scheduled to begin in November. He said both projects will be financed through Treasury funds, unlike previous expressway projects, which he said were built using borrowed money.
