The painful part is that I actually noticed some red flags from the beginning. I even suspected one of them was an accomplice. But because I had already won twice and they had paid me real cash, I ignored my instincts.

I'd never stereotype again; I just lost a ₦2.5m deal because of a stereotype. He said he was a student at Unilag and had this software idea. The problem is that every time a schoolmate asks me to build their idea, it's usually for free and maybe some equity; I mean, every single time. So when this guy came, I told him I was busy and referred him to another dev friend of mine. I received a 20k referral bonus now, and I don't even feel happy.
