@drcodyjphillips @JamieMadigan Yes, we and others have work on media-based coping strategies (escapism is one!) that can be positive and negative depending on a number of factors! Not only games, but they are in the mix

@JamieMadigan "Escapism" comes with some negative connotations built in. IMO you should expand your search to include terms like "coping". This should expand your literature base to include people who are using games to cope with and recover from difficult life events.

Doing a literature review on the psychology of escapism and games and kinda surprised at how much of it revolves around addiction and problematic use. I get it, but I thought there would be more about the BENEFITS of healthy escapism.
