Frederick Stingemore, whose father was a railway man, but by the age of 21 he was living in Hounslow worming as an artist. In 1919 he joined the Publicity department of London Underground and produced posters, maps and illustrations. 1926-32 he designed the Underground maps.

35 years ago, a very young @digitalfoundry gave his verdict on Commodore's CDTV. Its 6-year-old tech, poor software support, and vague multimedia/education system marketing made it feel like a risky buy at today's equivalent of £1,200. Which is probably why it sold <100k units.

@WeirdBristol Do you have any photos of it with the road still running across the top? I've crossed this bridge hundreds of times and find it fascinating that it was once the main road connection across the harbour. Hard to imagine now with the plimsoll bridge and other developments nearby.

Ashton Avenue Bridge opened in 1906 to connect the Bristol Harbour Railway & the Portishead Railway. The hydraulic-powered swing bridge was somewhat innovative in design as it was a double-decker crossing, allowing trains to pass at the bottom level and road vehicles at the top.
