@Gyata_Ba_ Also what your translating is not the traditional reading of that text. This is quite literally the only time I have ever heard that rendering.

Where did the Bible say "after the flood"? Lol where do you guys get this from? Or is there a certain transition that says so? The Bible never said "Nephilim existed after the flood" it mean Nephilim existed in those days and also after they have formed union with human women. So it's describing one period, which took place before the flood. Read subsequent verses maybe you will get a clearer understanding.

No nephilim was left, they were all wiped out. Noah's 3 sons indeed repopulated the earth and the lineage of Ham one of the 3 sons who settled on the land of Canaan produced the Anakim (Giant clans) which includes Gath where Goliath came from. These giants were not nephilim nor has any connection with nephilim, they were simply Giants, Philistines from Gath, descendants of Ham, Noah's son. The confusion came from the statement the Israelite spies made when they were sent to spy on the land. Let's look at this in Scripture and analyze it well. Numbers 13:32-33 NIV [32] And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. [33] We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.” So clearly here, they were afraid and decided to spread bad reports to scare the group from attacking the land. In their attempt to doing so, they tried magnifying the size of the giants by mentioning the nephilim. They were never nephilim and scripture tells us how they were punished by God for trying to instill fear in the Israelites.

@Ashtronautgirl Genesis 6 says they were on the Earth during the days of the flood and after. Best not to assume how that happened exactly, but there is some really good reading material on Hebrew mythology that offers suggestions. Also the Midrash has theories as well

To my Protestant brothers and sisters this is a sincere question: without citing your subjective feelings on the matter, how do you know that Luke's & Mark's Gospels are INSPIRED SCRIPTURE not merely historic records? It's all good to say that "all scripture is inspired by God," but how did you arrive at the knowledge that THIS BOOK (eg Mark) IS scripture without trusting "tradition?"

How can you not be disgusted by Christianity when you hear this? "Jesus was Jewish. Almost all our Bible was written by Jews. It's actually not the Old Testament. It's called the Hebrew Bible" "And when we open our Bibles on Sunday mornings, we are opening a Jewish book. In fact, we have no book without their book. We have no heroes without Jewish heroes. We have no values without Jewish values" "In fact, you might say that every single blessing in our Christian lives in one way or another, we owe to the Jewish people. The God we worship, the scriptures we read, the Savior we adore, it all comes to us through this holy land"

@grok @Sola_GPT I agree, but with that, these prophets weren’t bringing anything “new” or adding to the scriptures. With your interpretation, how is Islam any different from Mormonism? They claim that their prophet brought about a new revelation. Both starting with a visit from an angel.

New Testament refs to ongoing prophets/prophecy: Eph 4:11-13 (prophets equip saints); 1 Cor 12:28, 14:1-5,29-33 (gifts for edification); Acts 11:27-28,13:1,15:32,21:10 (examples like Agabus); Rom 12:6; 1 Thess 5:20; Rev 11:3-12. Cessationism evolved post-apostolic era, formalized in Reformation (e.g., Calvin); closed canon by 4th cent. councils (Rome 382) to end new revelations. Parallels Jewish view: prophecy ceased after Malachi (c. 420 BC), canon closed ~2nd cent. AD, both to guard against new claims post-key era.

Mormons don’t get mad They just become the foremost experts on Galatians 1:8 🤣🤣 Hit us with your next best proof text

The Eternal Saints@Eternal_Saints_

What Galatians 1:8 Is Really Talking About Latter-day Saints on this app, and pretty much everywhere online, see the same verse from Galatians thrown at them constantly. Sometimes dozens of times a day. A well-meaning (or not so well-meaning) mainstream Christian drops into the comments to remind us that Paul said in Galatians 1 that “even if an angel” preaches a different gospel, “let him be accursed.” To them, this is the slam dunk of all slam dunks. Their logic goes like this: Moroni was an angel → The Book of Mormon came from an angel → therefore Joseph Smith is “accursed” → and Mormonism is false. If only it were that simple. To understand what Paul meant, we have to ask basic questions: Who was he talking to? Who was he talking about? And why did he say it? Paul wrote Galatians because other missionaries (part of the early Christian factions that still followed the Law of Moses) were visiting the congregations Paul had founded. In this case, the churches in Galatia. These missionaries insisted Paul wasn’t teaching the “real” gospel. They argued that Gentile converts still needed to keep the Law of Moses, especially circumcision. These people are known in scholarship as the Judaizers. And here’s the part most critics never mention: These missionaries were sent by James, the brother of Jesus Christ and head of the original church in Jerusalem. In other words, the very leadership that knew Jesus personally disapproved of what Paul was teaching and sent representatives to correct him. They believed Paul was preaching the “other gospel.” That’s what Galatians 1:8 is actually about. Not angels, not future scripture, not visions in 1820, but the debate over whether Gentiles had to observe the Law of Moses. If you read Paul’s letters with this context, you’ll notice that a huge portion of the New Testament is Paul fighting this exact battle. Why was there a battle? Because Paul was not authorized by the Jerusalem apostles. Paul repeatedly mentions that his calling came through a personal vision of the risen Christ on the road to Damascus, not from Peter, James, or John. He openly admits he did not seek their approval and that his authority came from a direct revelation. That was precisely the issue: he was acting outside the recognized hierarchy, and the original apostles questioned the legitimacy of his message. Sound familiar? Now, let’s compare this with the Book of Mormon. Was Joseph Smith preaching a “different gospel”? Not according to the text. In 3 Nephi, when the resurrected Jesus Christ appears to the Nephites, He teaches the same gospel found in the New Testament and declares the Law of Moses fulfilled in Him. (3 Nephi 15:4-5) That’s the same doctrine Paul spent his entire ministry defending. And on the subject of visions and authority, the parallel is striking. Paul claimed an independent, personal vision that called him to preach to the Gentiles, even when established leaders pushed back. Joseph Smith claimed a personal vision calling him to restore lost truth and bring the gospel to a new people, outside the existing Christian hierarchy. In both cases, someone was called by God directly, not appointed by existing leaders, to do something new, something disruptive, something the established structure didn’t authorize. Paul’s mission: take the gospel to the Gentiles. Joseph Smith’s mission: bring the gospel to the New World. So if critics want to weaponize Galatians 1:8, they may want to take a closer look at the historical context. Paul wasn’t condemning future revelations, angels, or scripture. He was fighting a very specific dispute over the Law of Moses; and he was the one being accused of preaching the “other gospel.” When you understand that, the verse looks a lot less like a warning against the Restoration and a lot more like a story Latter-day Saints should find familiar.

Yes, many critical scholars argue that early Old Testament texts depict direct human interactions with Yahweh in anthropomorphic forms (e.g., Genesis 18, Exodus 33). Some see evidence of later redaction, where "Angel of the Lord" was substituted to emphasize God's transcendence, as in Judges 6 or Exodus 3, per redaction criticism. Ancient Hebrews often described God anthropomorphically, with body parts like hands or eyes (e.g., Exodus 33:23, Psalm 18:9), though views evolved toward abstraction post-exile. Sources: Jewish Encyclopedia, academic works by Stavrakopoulou.
