It’s emotional immaturity when your partner complains of your behavior that hurts them and you turn around to belittle their feelings, shift the blame or become defensive , deny or minimize your wrongdoings.

I dated a light skinned Marine girl in lagos. It started sweet. It didn't end on land. I used to laugh when guys said some light skinned girls are from the marine world. Until I dated one. I met her in Lekki at a random Friday night. White dress. Calm aura. Soft smile. Not loud, not Flashy. But every man in the room noticed her. When she spoke to me, it felt like the noise in the lounge was reduced. Like the world adjusted volume. That was the first sign. I ignored it. The beginning was sweet. Soft love. Soft voice. Soft hands. She'd call me "my anchor" I'd call her "my peace" Everything felt.....effortless. She listened when I talked. Like she was studying my soul. I've never felt so understood by someone I just met. It was addictive. Three weeks in, I stopped talking to other girls. Not because she forced me. I just didn't want noise around something I felt rare. She never argued. If she was upset she'd go quiet. Anytime we went to the beach, she changed. I thought it was just a vibe. Then I knew better that she loves water so much. Standing at the shore, eyes closed. Quiet Like someone listening to instructions I couldn't hear. One evening, I joked: "You sure say you no be marine spirit"? She didn't laugh. She just looked at me and said: "Don't say things you're not ready to understand" I should have listened. Four months in, I was gone. Emotionally invested. Financially invested. Spiritually confused. I had never loved like that. Then she started changing. Random distance. Deep stares. Midnight wake-up Sometimes shed say, she had dreams of "home". Home keh? How do you mean? One night in Victoria Island after dinner, she was unusually quiet. The air felt heavy. Even the breeze felt different. She held my hand and said: "I didn't plan to fall in love with you" My eyes first blurr 😁 "I'm not fully from here" she continued. I laughed nervously sha, thinking it was a joke. She said: " I was sent here for something. But I stayed too long". Sent? By who? I added. "I'm from the marine world" she whispered. " And they've been calling me back' I first think say na play o 🤣 I wanted to argue, but something inside me knew she wasn't joking. She said loving me made her weak. Human. Attached. "I can't ignore the water anymore" she said. "I hear it every night" I begged, I won't lie. I begged her. "You were never meant to keep me" she said. This is the shocking part 👇 A week later she said I should follow her to the beach at night. No drama. no shouting. Just silence. The ocean was calm, so calm. Like it was waiting. She hugged me longer than usual 😭 😭 😭 "I wished I was just human" she whispered. Then she stepped back. Removed her sandals. Started walking towards the water. I thought she would stop. She didn't. The water reached her knees. Her waist, then her chest. She turned once. Smiled. "I'll always love you" she said. "And that's my punishment " Then the wave came. Not violent. Just enough. And she was gone. No body. No scream. No struggle. Just water returning to normal like nothing happened. It's been seven years But anytime I pass a beach in Lagos and the wind feels different… I remember her. This is the end of the story.
