"So I’m driving down the road this morning and the cars in front of me are driving over a black thing in the road. It’s going between their tires so I’m guessing it’s a box. It’s a kitten just sitting upright shaking like a leaf. And some a$$hole had spread glue on its paws and stuck it to the road. I thought maybe it walked through glue somewhere but after looking at it, that was totally spread into her paws. She was wet and freezing and literally glued to the road. And NO ONE STOPPED. 😳 What the f$&k people??? I slammed on my brakes and stopped all the traffic and put my hazards on and got out and pealed her off the road. People were honking and all pissy....really??? It’s a kitten glued to the road!! So after a goo gone bath and some food and cream we have a new kitten. Luckiest kitten in the world!" I saw a few videos on TikTok where a few teachers mocked certain "bad Christmas presents" like dollar store trinkets, cheap mugs, or hard candy. And I watched with a mix of sadness and anger as they carelessly unboxed their stashes of gifts. When a child thinks of you enough to bring you a gift -- no matter how inexpensive or common it may seem -- the gesture itself is a gift. That child is saying, "You matter in my life and I want to give you something." When a teacher mocks this gesture, they're not mocking a gift. They're mocking the gesture and the heart of their students. Fortunately, most teachers aren't like this. Most of them cherish all gifts they receive. When I left the middle school classroom after 12 years and moved into higher education, I finally got rid of my massive collection of dollar store trinkets and cheap mugs. I knew my students. I knew that these items weren't cheap given their parents salaries. I knew how big of a gesture it was that a supposedly jaded 8th grader would hand me a mug of generic hard candy and a thank you note. And although I eventually cleared out my classroom and threw away a few dollar store mugs, I kept all of those notes in a box as a reminder that I had made a difference even when I couldn't see it.

This week marks the 25th anniversary of the King of Queens. By the time I signed on as Carrie Heffernan, I had been to hundreds of auditions, was cast in many pilots and some short-lived series, and was finally offered The King Of Queens. As soon as production started on season one, I knew I was home, and I am blessed to say I was part of a truly special show that went on for nine seasons and 207 episodes and still lives on successfully in syndication. Our cast was amazing...Kevin James, Jerry Stiller, Gary, Patton, Victor, Nicole. They all made me laugh every day. Our gifted guest and recurring cast made the show what it is. Working with the cast, crew, and our awesome and dedicated writers and producers was a dream come true for an actress. I want to let you all know that I see the comments where you say that you fall asleep every night to The King of Queens, that it got you through a rough day and tough times in your lives, that you laughed for the first time in your day watching us, or that you watch several episodes a day, or that you and your family bond over watching the episodes in syndication. One fan commented that her family is a three-generation King of Queens household: her mom watches it, she watches it, and now her daughter watches it. It means the world to me, and I’m so grateful for this experience that lives on and on.
