i'm done with that now. whatever i do now has to scare the shit out of me and seem impossibly hard and truly take root in obsession

i did this with my buildspace project - picked something because there was a pretty clear path to building it and some people said it was cool, rather than because it scared the shit out of me or i loved it. then when it was over, the motivation vanished

and the results are always absolutely fine - people i love still love me, i'm still achieving good things, i still feel ok about myself, life goes on

over time, i've gotten addicted to dreaming pretty small

it never explicitly tells me "you're not good enough for this" or "this is too hard for you", which is the most dangerous part - it just fills in the blank with reasoning that sounds just good enough to take seriously
