🗞️ I asked myself this morning why the news industry is dying. Then I looked up the numbers. #journalist #jounalism

Most people I know in AI think the median person is screwed, and they have no idea what to do about it. I spent the last 3 months talking to dozens of researchers, economists, and policy experts about AI's impact on work; including reps from every frontier lab and several Congressional offices. Unfortunately, I was not reassured. The AI industry is raising the alarm, but can't change course. These companies' core business model relies on the disruption they are warning about: their faith in full automation only makes them go faster. Policymakers are waking up, but still paralyzed by data and debates. Econ wonks disagree on plenty, but even the limited scenario looks like a "painful transition" that will disempower millions of workers. But an "underclass" is not inevitable, but rather a societal choice — and one we can and should stop. Instead of waiting for impact, we should start planning now to support workers through AI disruption. Whether policymakers can assuage concerns about economic security may determine if we get to reap AI's gains at all. New from me for @NYTOpinion. I put a ton into researching what I think may be the biggest topic of the year, so hope you read it (gift link here!) nytimes.com/2026/04/30/opi…

The tech content discourse right now has reached peak 1. People discovering clipping like its some magic new thing (highlight / theme pages have been doing this since 2015) 2. Nonstop chatter about how TBPN is shadowbanned, and how clipping drove the outsized value (this makes no sense) 3. People obsessed with organic tech media, except that every single launch video on this app is a hidden influencer campaign (I don't mind a good ad campaign to be clear, but call it what it is) 4. Trying to get AI to do all content for you when outsized content outcomes are all driven by incredibly novel ideas, which ai has trouble executing well 5. "Editors are over" posts where people who have never edited a video in their lives think Claude will suddenly be able to put out a full banger video on its own

One of the things I discuss here: We’re not “launching TikTok shop” as much as we are trying activate creators and affiliates at scale. TikTok has the best native tools: creator discovery, sampling, product tagging, native affiliate payments, etc But Meta and YouTube are following fast to give brands the same ability to build a creator-content flywheel. We were years behind in building an affiliate program with TikTok, but developing one this year will hopefully become more valuable as these creators + content can be leveraged across more platforms.
Zain@NotZainAgain

Ridge will do $200 million in sales this year. They will hit $1 mil/month on TikTok Shop (I hope) @couuor is the legendary CMO of Ridge and has been steering the marketing ship there for close to 9 years (real unc status) Super grateful that he was willing to take a break from looksmaxxing to come on the pod and break down: 1. Their exact TikTok Shop strategy 2. What's working for them right now on Meta, YouTube, partnerships, etc. 3. How they were able to do their highest non-Q4 quarter and grow significantly YoY 4. Which international markets are absolutely crushing for them I guarantee you will learn something useful from this vid if you work in marketing for eCom or agency side youtu.be/y1SIDvV3sTY?si…

Canadians are noticing with their own eyes that something is wrong in our country. Yet, the media and Liberals tell us that there’s nothing to worry about. That these opinions are “far right,” and extremist. Believe your own eyes.

Instead of watching an hour of Netflix, watch this 60 minute lecture from Steve Jobs after being fired from Apple. It will teach you more about building companies than most startup books ever will.
