Unchosen on Netflix looks like a creative attempt to write a 'fictional' drama about the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church/Exclusive Brethren without getting sued. It is a shame viewers won't realise that the similarities to the Brethren in real life are quite startling. It is also sad that all those actively supporting brethren PR, e.g. the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) won't make the connection.

@LOL_LISAA I was a teacher in an Exclusive Brethren school nearly 20 years ago. I gave a girl a lift home one day. When we got there no one was home as her Granny was sick. Due to no mobile phones we didn't know, and she lost it. She thought they'd all been raptured without her. She was 16.

The depiction of a curious cult in The Unchosen is accurate. There's often a lot of indoctrination, cover ups, snitching up on one another, sexual repression (often channelled into deviant behaviours), heavy-handed discipline of transgressors and shunning of ex-members. Watching that movie, I recalled different people I know are trapped within cults and some who have left them and the things they told me. What stood out for me is the level of elitism in cults. There's this way they make you feel superior to everyone outside. You are regularly told you are on an elevated spiritual plane, ascending, specially chosen by God or highly favoured to be in touch with "God's only true mouthpiece." This cocktail of "highness" is what blinds people and keeps them wrapped around such group leaders.

Last night, MPs had a unique opportunity to force a forensic investigation on Starmer for his Mandelson sleaze. To expose him. I voted to drag him through it. 223 MPs did. That included Labour MPs who put their careers at risk to do the right thing. Farage failed to vote with us - he didn't bother to show up. We had a chance to finally drag the truth into the light, put him under brutal scrutiny, and let the British people see exactly how this corrupt system protects its own. Why get yourself elected to Parliament if, when a real moment of genuine consequence arrives, you are nowhere to be seen? Parliament isn't loads of fun, to be honest. I'd rather be doing other things. I would prefer to be in Great Yarmouth campaigning. But this is the job. It is what we are paid to do. It is our duty as MPs. And it is a duty that matters, especially on a vote as fundamental as this one. The absence of those who should have been there in our Parliament to hold this rotten Prime Minister to account speaks louder than any speech they could ever make.
