BREAKING: Burnham to cut VAT from energy bills from October 1. The move is expected to take around £45 off the yearly Ofgem price cap. Will cost £850m & will be funded through the cancelled digital ID scheme. Burnham: “I said I wanted to give people breathing space, and that’s what I’m announcing on my second day as Prime Minister.      “We’re taking immediate action to cut taxes on energy bills, put more money in people’s pockets and bring back hope.”

@snayl86ste @BethRigby The £117 cut was added to general taxation so you'll still be paying. The VAT cut applies only to electricity, not gas, so likely to save around £30. Also all UK households energy bills increased annually by £26 from January to lower bills by £150 for those on benefits.
