Grateful for taking the feedback and yeah I did fuck the highs a bit there. Would agree it's too loud there, but principles can be applied for how you treat dynamics generally. Number 1 thing I'd say re:vocal loudness would be to always do your final leveling in mono so you can try to hear if it is audible or not. Anyway, whipped together a quick project with stock+free plug-ins so I could send u some stuff that you could use in future mixes if you're interested. Here's a quick video going through everything with a tl;dr and links: 1. comp at 4:1-8:1 range will clean up most peaks 2. TDR Nova - free and works as both a MBEQ and would recommend for upwards compression (can be found here: tokyodawn.net/tdr-nova/). Raised main parts of the vocal, but also cut around the S/T/Th range with a notch (dynamic, though, so it's left boosted when it's not receiving signal above threshold) 3. OTT used here on upwards only mode for quieter parts in vocals - depth never passes 40% (automation visible) 4. EQ - you can also see this in band 1 of Nova, but notch EQ and notch MBEQ can allow u to reduce the tinniness of the high end while preserving the shine you're adding otherwise 5. Reverb at end is there to simulate room - any reverb can work here (recommend valhalla supermassive for fav free one valhalladsp.com/shop/reverb/va…) Used throws instead of sends for delay and normal reverb - allows them to be sidechained behind main vocals even if the reverb plug-in you use doesn't have that built in ------------ Wanted to say at the end of this if u ever need help with plug-ins and/or mix audibility stuff, feel free to reach out. I do sometimes teach this kind of stuff and would be down to help out where I can
