@MarcGoldwein Set it and don't index it to inflation, and we will solve the Social Security solvency problem!

@WesternLensman Amazing how little faith Democrats have in the ability of government workers to do relatively simple things.

Chuck Schumer, yesterday: No one trusts that ICE is going to make things better at airports. Local Philadelphia station, today: “This is an empty line right now. Yesterday this was all the way back to the garage."

If people are fighting for an orb you are reading fantasy. If people are fighting for a cube you are reading sci-fi. If it has more sides than that. I dont know. I dont know man.

I’ve never seen anything like this. This is the New Orleans airport. The line begins far before I started filming. Everyone around me is expecting to miss their flights. All because Congress can’t figure out how to do its job.

@mattyglesias Agreed on the main point (markets do better with peace than chaos), but isn't TACO completely refuted by Venezuela and Iran? That is, "Trump Always Chickens Out" - if the extensive campaign against Iran so far shows "chickens out", that phrase has no meaning.

Congratulations to everyone who kept their heads, ignored the physical fundamentals, and just counted on TACO to maintain market equilibrium.

@Bulkington___ Rome still does this today, though some are repurposed as Christian churches, like the Pantheon, and some are tourist sites, like the Colosseum, and some are active archaeological sites. Many are just crumbling or built on or around. Just got home from Rome, would go again.

Always fascinated how people in the middle ages for hundreds of years just lived amongst the ever decrepitating Roman ruins. It was just a part of daily life for them.

@SandyofCthulhu There's no conductive/convective heat transfer, but radiative heat transfer to empty sky is quite effective. See making ice with a solar oven...

@LDS_Dems Yes. He was right. "The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities." Republicans hate that it was a huge waste of time, money, and national focus.

@SandyofCthulhu I realized part-way through the first that I was completely detached. No immersion whatsoever. And then it went on for hours. I do wonder how much was the 48fps, but I haven't experimented. One reviewer shared a similar experience, but said seeing it again at 24fps was engaging.

@BobMurphyEcon Chuck Norris facts. Early 2005 "facts" about Vin Diesel after "The Pacifier" posted to Something Awful forums, then evolved to be about Chuck Norris, also Conan O'Brien's Chuck Norris jokes centered on Walker, Texas Ranger, and jokes from 80s-90s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Nor…

Is it documented anywhere how the mythology developed around Chuck Norris? I mean, once people made a few of the jokes, everybody gets the formula and it is self-perpetuating. But when did that start?

One of my favorite things about Dracula was that he was always ALWAYS portrayed as unredeemably evil. The Frankenstein monster? Not his fault. The Wolfman? Didn't choose his curse. The Gillman? He didn't ask the humans to come annoy him. But Dracula was just plain bad. This is why I hated Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula so much. They tried to whitewash Dracula to an extent and can we not have ONE SINGLE MONSTER that is just plain evil? It's so refreshing.

The Catholic Church are unironically the good guys of Castlevania and Dracula is just evil, with God being an objective force for good. The Church being the real bad guys and Dracula being misunderstood is a fabrication of the cartoon show because Adi Shankar hates Christianity.

The fact that AIs tend to answer you in bulleted lists tells us something important, though somewhat depressing: people can't read. They don't do this by accident. What you're seeing is an implicit portrait of the median user.

Assume a tip jar (*) was placed at the TSA checkpoint to cover the typical wages of security personnel on a fully staffed Friday morning. Each passenger contributing $2 would more than cover Atlanta's passenger security workload. (*Obviously not allowed)

@JustinWolfers Don't forget to adjust for inflation. Inflation for 2025 was 2.7% 194900*1.027 = $200,162.3 So since the $200 billion is 2026 dollars, the tariff revenue is more. (approximately as serious as parent post)

Putting the fiscal cost of the Iran war in context. $200 billion > $194.9 billion, which means that Trump is planning on spending more on the Iran war than he took in with his tariffs which raised tons of revenue. I wasn't sure this could be right, so I drew a graph, and it is.
