@skylermzx @N104AP Even then, it will leak metadata, making it no better than WhatsApp.

@GrowlerEnjooyer @DummyOldThing @stupidtechtakes Also, DOH and ECH exists. By this combination, it is usually not possible to tell what (ECH enabled) websites the client visited, even without a VPN. (because the IP address could be corresponding to a CDN that hosts many services.)
English

@GrowlerEnjooyer @DummyOldThing @stupidtechtakes Anti-censorship methods exist, which makes VPN traffic hard to detect even by DPI firewalls, such as the Great Firewall of China.

@stupidtechtakes The text gives me a feeling that they don't understand what a VPN is

@MigataiNoGokui @wasiqwiqar @SaadInCyber Red is a weakly dominant strategy because it doesn't carry risk to yourself (100% survival regardless what others pressed)
This game has 2 equilibriums:
1 everyone presses red
2 everyone presses blue
But because red is a weakly dominant strategy, there are more incentives for it
English

@soaraboveworld @wasiqwiqar @SaadInCyber You can literally do the same thing (maximize your own benefit) by pressing blue.
English

If it came this close in a twitter poll, you can absolutely bet your ass that red button wins in real life.
MrBeast@MrBeast
Everyone on earth takes a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press? BE HONEST.
English

@wasiqwiqar @MigataiNoGokui @SaadInCyber Not everyone is rational*
I'm just explaining an assumption for an optimal result of everyone pressing red. Of course, it won't happen.
English

@MigataiNoGokui @wasiqwiqar @SaadInCyber The logic is that if everyone is rational, aiming to maximize their own benefit and minimize risk, also assuming others will behave this way, will press red. Therefore, no one will have the incentive to press blue because they know there won't be enough pressing it.
English

@wasiqwiqar @SaadInCyber If everyone presses blue, everyone survives too. Tf is this logic lmao
English

@wingspunctured @Ayiba_Benedict Standard game theory only focuses on maximizing individual payout (in this case, individual survival rate).
English

@Ayiba_Benedict game theory favours the blue button anyways (in the case of at least 1 person not being communicated) for the best collective outcome.

Makes more sense than game theory

@The_Propapanda @paranoiaforhire @Yashraj__ @signalapp That's not how profile encryption works.
"When you create a new profile, the picture and the name you choose are encrypted using a unique profile key. This encrypted material is uploaded to the server (which never has access to the profile key)."
signal.org/blog/signal-pr…
English

@paranoiaforhire @Yashraj__ @signalapp You are right, I apologize, client-side only won't work. However, Signal servers see the name in the moment of creation and could very well blacklist such names before it even gets to encrypted storage.
English

A response to recent reporting in Germany, in service of clarity and accountability:
First, it’s important to be precise when it comes to critical infrastructure like Signal. Signal was not “hacked” — in that our encryption, infrastructure, and the integrity of the app’s code was not compromised.
However, sophisticated attackers have engaged in a harmful phishing campaign, posing as “Signal Support” by changing their profile display name and using social engineering to trick people into handing over their credentials — information that allowed these attackers to take over some targeted Signal accounts. This is something that plagues any mainstream messaging app once it reaches the scale of Signal, but we know how high the stakes are given the trust people place in us.
In the coming weeks, you’ll see us rolling out a number of changes to help hinder these kinds of attacks.
Because we don’t collect user data, what we know about these attacks comes from the victims of phishing. And from what victims have told us, the attacks followed a broad pattern: after tricking people into revealing their Signal credentials, attackers then used those credentials to take over their account and also frequently changed the associated phone number. Because such a change results in de-registering your Signal accounts, attackers prepared people for this by telling them that being de-registered was intended behavior, and that all they would need to do is “re-register,” or, create a new account. When they moved to create a new Signal account — one that was now decoupled from their hijacked account — the victims thought they were logging back in to their primary account. As a result, many didn't notice the takeover. The compromised accounts were then weaponized to target the victims' contact lists by posing as the owners of the account.
We understand the trust that people put in Signal, and how devastating this kind of social engineering can be. While it’s true that all messaging platforms are susceptible to scammers and phishing that betrays people’s trust and convinces them to “unlock the front door” where no backdoor exists, we are looking to do everything we can to help people avoid and detect such scams.
For the time being, please stay vigilant against phishing and account takeover attempts. Remember that no one from Signal Support will ever send you a message request or ask for your registration verification code or Signal PIN. For an added layer of protection, you can enable Registration Lock in your Signal Settings (Account -> Registration Lock).

@Ibl1zZZ @KinaMagica @keyokku No offence here.... But alcohol is a type 1 carcinogen classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), with scientific evidence confirming it causes at least seven types of cancer.
Its not always a good option, especially as you get older.
English

@KinaMagica @keyokku this is why bars are important for men. Beers with the bros is alot of loves shared.
English

This might be controversial but as someone who’s been on both sides of the gender spectrum, Men’s mental health is awful.
I genuinely feel bad for men, most of them end up emotionally deprived because nobody cares enough to express love to them.
You’re ridiculed as a joke if you’re not masculine enough.
Women are cold to you unless they find you attractive, and receiving compliments don’t exist.
Back when I was a boy or was boymoding
(Trans woman pretending to be a c¡s man)
I’ve actually had countless women say mean things to me when I talk too much or too loud in a shared space with others, genuinely made me fearful of women for the longest time.
My previous experience I would say is a lot of women hate men when they take up space,
Because they see men taking up space as misogynistic, and I can understand why when someone might be loudest in the room.
But I remember when I would be speaking and having fun talking with my close friends other women would tell me to shut up and things related to that, I liked yapping and I guess a lot of women in my irl life hated me for that.
Not only that but a lot of women would be randomly mean to me if I were to openly express myself and be kinda quirky.
One girl in my irl life recently apologized to me after 3 years, saying sorry for being randomly mean to me years ago and now being randomly nice to me even tho I don’t interact or talk with her.
I remember she was mean to me when I was younger so I avoided interacting with her to not be bullied, because she said some really mean things, and now that I’ve came out living and looking like the opposite gender, women and everyone are now all of a sudden nice to me, things I’ve never had like compliments, support, and care.
And I found it strange how not only did someone who used to be mean to me suddenly be nice to me and also apologize, it feels like it genuinely is a whole gender thing.
Because I’ve seen them so many times in the past and walk past them and they don’t even bother looking at me, but now that I came out living as a girl it’s the complete opposite.
When I used to socialize it felt like I wasn’t allowed to take up much space or have much of a voice, Or else others will be angry at me,
That affected my mental health and self worth a lot, and it carries over even as the other gender.
Because before I was mostly told by others to not speak up, try to not take up space, you’re not important, to suddenly being uplifted and cheered for, and being told I have value, and that I should speak up for myself and people alike, the change is so sudden and unexpected.
I feel like men are not treated kindly in society, a lot of men are usually seen as bad, it also affects all of them.
I understand men are seen as perpetrators, but this genuinely also affects teenage boys and young men into pushing them to think that they are also perpetrators and predators when they are just innocent boys.
Maybe the pov is different for me because I am a trans woman and wanted to be a girl since 6, and being treated like you’re dangerous and unworthy of love is very terrible for mental health.
I think a lot of innocent men get fucked over by men with ill intent and make people fearful of men, it’s a problem on both sides but I genuinely feel bad for the men who didn’t do anything and are pushed to repress themselves.

@PopBase Yeah I hate smoke and I don't smoke. But what the heck is this authoritarian junk?
English

The UK will ban anyone 17 and under from ever buying cigarettes after the Tobacco and Vapes Bill cleared Parliament.
Anyone born after January 1, 2009 will never be able to legally purchase tobacco, aiming to create a smoke-free generation.

NEWS: Australia’s birth rate hits another record low 🚨
Fertility falls to ~1.48 in 2025 — **2nd straight record low since 1924**
• Projected to drop further to ~1.42
• Far below the 2.1 replacement level
Australia is now nowhere near replacement level.
This is exactly the decline @elonmusk has been warning about for years.
English

@JackTFaller @EmboarAdvocate @Templarpilled "I was born in the age of a free and open internet and I have no intention of giving that up."
That is my stance. Sadly, the authoritarian tendency continues. For people like you, under the UK OSA, it is already present tense.
English

@soaraboveworld @EmboarAdvocate @Templarpilled make accounts in advance which they can't ban after they decide to censor you because you already have accounts.
Children have no money, why risk going to jail to sell them verification? Not much profit to be made and high risk.
English

@JackTFaller @EmboarAdvocate @Templarpilled Its not suggesting to stop it, it's the technology that stopped it. Strong encryption makes it impossible to spy on properly encrypted messages, and that it a good thing. For decades, governments have being abusing their power to spy on the citizens and this will come to an end.
English

@JackTFaller @EmboarAdvocate @Templarpilled *in creating new accounts.
Also, the gov will be able to know how many accounts you have created and when you created them.
English

@JackTFaller @EmboarAdvocate @Templarpilled Compare it to now: we can make accounts whenever we like. In your future, we have to preemptively create accounts and the government has control over us on that aspect.
English

@JackTFaller @EmboarAdvocate @Templarpilled Anyway, I think this system still increases government power over us drastically. This is not good going forward because we lost more rights, especially where the internet is a close part off our lives
English

@JackTFaller @EmboarAdvocate @Templarpilled A key assumption is that ppl will go to jail for that. Actually, there are plenty of ppl in 3rd world countries that will be willing to do this. You can't put them in jail because law enforcement is weak there.
