3rd Party ownership and influence is in the news lately in Irish football. It is a complex area where clubs have to watch every step they take 🧵 here

Ultimately most TPI issues that Irish clubs encounter are most likely unintentional and low level. TPO issues tend to be more deliberate choices and are accordingly much rarer with no previous example know to me of their being an issue with an Irish club

In the Irish context FAI rules also place strict conditions on TPI/TPO with sanctions reserved for breaches. Irish Clubs who had issues could find themselves in hot water with FIFA and domestically

Ireland as a football country has come a long way but we know from our history the protection of minors and the proper regulation of those involved in transfers and contracts is vital and it is encouraging to see the FAI and the PFAIreland taking a strong stance here /end of 🧵

Ultimately FIFA reinstated agent exams and qualifications (despite legal challenges from agents) but National Associations are still responsible for regulation in their own countries. I'm glad to see the FAI take this matter seriously.

Very interesting development reported here by @markmccadden Short 🧵 The whole area of agents operating in Ireland is an intriguing one. Good to see the FAI take a tough stance on this. There have been a whole host of reforms of agent regulations at the Fifa level over the years
