No. It's just as tragic. It doesn't make world news because Israel in the center of world events and is an important world player (being a key recipient of US aid and a influencer of the US), unlike Nigeria.

Bill Maher on the Islamic slaughter of Christians in Nigeria: "They are literally trying to wipe out the christian population of an entire country. Where are the kids protesting this? They don't care because the Jews aren't involved"

As someone who's actually watched almost all Ray movies, this is particularly baffling. Ray's movies weren't even really showing any real poverty like Jabbar Patel. His movies were mostly about the white collar bourgeois. It shows how sanghis are extra dumb in their hate.
theDoc@theDoc568

@gauravsabnis Apparently he showed poverty of India (aka reality) to the world in his films. So a bad guy....

@gauravsabnis It's always the top reason. Even when I moved back, it was one of the first things I noticed which gave me so much free time. I wasn't shovelling snow every day for 4 months or washing dishes and vacuuming there apartment anymore.

Yes, even many of my friends or family who moved back to India start off with "so cheap to hire maids nannies drivers" as their top happiness factor. It's never about being close to parents or family or hometown. It's always about how cheap labor is ubiquitous.
Cruella de Vil@MalluChique

Former colleague of Indian origin was listing out pros of moving back to India. Top of List - Wont have to do House work anymore since they can hire Bayi and Maharaj for peanuts! Here they have to everything themselves! Cleaning & Chores is below their Upper Caste status na?!

Why exactly did Satyajit Ray suddenly become the enemy du jour for Hindutva Twitter in recent days?

@gauravsabnis We had Goan neighbours at one point who were born and raised in Karachi who came to visit (when such things were still possible). It was incredible and sad at the same time to think how people were torn out from a place they had roots in.

Sorry, not grandparents. Great grandparents. One of their great grandmothers was a Marathi Muslim woman from Ahmednagar who had this romantic love story with their great grandfather when he was posted near Pune. And she moved to Karachi with him in the 30s. So cute!

A Pakistani colleague once asked me to meet his visiting teenage nephew niece from Karachi who were both history nerds and wanted to talk to me about India. It was such a fun 2 hours. They asked me so much about Maratha history in detail. One of their grandparents was Marathi.
Majaz@EdictsofV

@gauravsabnis Not sure how prevalent it is on ground, but have seen on social media how folks from Pakistan have started to reclaim & recognize their subcontinental history. There are sections that have realized Turkish or Arab origins are a farce. Dinn door nahiN when “India” is history!

That's what I used to think until I went there but no! Teotihuacan was a rival of Aztecs in 1500s but it was built 2000 years ago. By a civilization we have no recorded history about, just anthropological clues of their lives. Pyramid of Sun/Moon are modern names. 🧵

@gauravsabnis Wait what ? No one knows who built it ? I always thought this was well established that it was the Aztecs. Is that not the case ?

What makes Teotihuacan so extra mysterious that the ruins, if you can even call them ruins, don't feel like they are 2000 years old! They are so solid. So even. With minimal restoration. Roman or Egyptian or Indian ruins look and feel ancient. Teotihuacan feels brand new!

"What's the most mysterious place you visited in Latin America?" Teotihuacan! I knew in theory that Mexico also has pyramids but I was not prepared for the scale & sophistication! And we have no idea who built it. Even the last natives there found the place, didn't build it!

Yeah, my first 3-4 NYC visits solo, almost 20 years ago, I used to spend so much time in Grand Central! Just sitting in a corner on some stairs reading with the light hitting my book just right. Or window shopping. Snacking. Just roaming around. Best train station on Earth!

@gauravsabnis Has a proper functioning loo, been to the men's urinal. Considering the sheer crowd it was clean. And the number of stores and eateries inside is mind boggling.
