Fresh scans from recent expedition. One more example of #soilaggregates existence. Classical case (this pic) - the granular structure of native #Chernozem from #Kurskregion. Raw µCT data (without smoothing) shows geometrical elements in soil core sample (undisturbed!!).😉

Good example that soil #aggregatestability depends on chemical composition: high C+medium Fe+medium clay in topsoil (0-15 cm) vs low C+low Fe+low clay in eluvial horizon (15-30 cm) vs low C+high Fe+high clay in undersoil (50-80 cm). Pic. from our paper rdcu.be/bP66x

Soils as part of local history. At our leisure we have visited Kursk, found soil profiles in Museum of Local History and took a photo with #antonovka apple. #Chernozem and #antonovka - symbols of this region. If you are #soilscientist and will have a trip to Russia, visit it! ✈️
