To civil society, journalists, and state authorities: We are writing as friends and colleagues of Mohammad Saad, seeking his immediate and lawful release. At approximately 3:30 AM this Monday, 12–13 masked men forcibly entered his home and took him away without presenting any warrant or lawful authority. This constitutes an unlawful deprivation of liberty and a clear breach of due process. Only after subsequent legal pressure was an FIR registered on grounds that appear arbitrary and unfounded, raising serious concerns of post facto justification of an already unlawful detention. Saad is a journalist, researcher, and Political Science scholar whose work engages with complex political and strategic subjects. He has also worked with state institutions when called upon, after being vetted and cleared, contributing in areas aligned with national interest. His detention by personnel within CTD represents a serious overreach of authority and undermines constitutional safeguards, including protection against arbitrary arrest and the sanctity of the home. We call on all responsible authorities to ensure due process, review the legality of his detention, and facilitate his immediate and safe release. #ReleaseSaad
