One of the most important duties of government is informing citizens of its actions. So it’s actually foolhardy as a citizen to say ‘don’t inform me’. Every citizen must even demand it.

@solar_plexuss I agree. That is what Mampong should be doing. They understand the problems; from the overuse concerns, lack of standardization and testing etc but they need funding to engage and sensitise such communities. Most of the usage is informal with remedies passed on elders.

@delalibessa Oh yeah I agree. But individuals can get treatments they want based on cost and access. Patient autonomy allows that. However, if governments do same and harm occurs, they could be staring down the barrel of multiple negligence suits by well motivated lawyers 😂

@solar_plexuss The risk dier, Ghanaians are always weighing it with cost and accessability. Some would rather use the remedy passed down from generations than go to hospital. And for the most part, it has worked for them. We just need the state to enforce more rigor and sustainability.

.@KakraForson asked the Health Minister the one question I had, concerning incorporating herbal remedies. I don't see how you develop a plan for primary health care, and that isn't factored in, especially since 70% of Ghanaians already rely on it for primary health care needs.

It requires that whichever treatment does not entrain with it short and long term safety issues like organ damage, teratogenicity and mortality

@delalibessa @KakraForson .. most important aspect of pharmacotherapy. Our herbal medications currently do not have such acute or chronic safety outcomes data. Makers of herbal regimens must be required to undertaker this research in order to have their meds on the formulary.

I've never waited for the gov't to employ me and i will never do that. But we need to work towards an enabling economy. Good interest rates etc The fundamentals..
