i am home alone and sick. i am reading up freebsd firewalls. Not enjoying being sick, at all. Wishing I was somewhere else.

I decided to put up a web site devoted to sharing knowledge of how freebsd is used within a corporate environment. I use FreeBSD 7.0

First of all I read the UNIX man pages man hier and man man

And now I am installing Apache MySql and PHP First thing I did was remove the older versions. Then to get the latest and greatest versions

I ran portsnap fetch; portsnap update I am going to make this a Ruby on Rails website I have no experience with ruby,

So I guess it;s down the rabbit hole I go! The next thing I have done is installed MySql 5.1.29 from /usr/ports. 1st I ran # make config

then I ran i ran the following command make BUILD_OPTIMIZED=yes BUILD_STATIC=yes install clean

These options will give me higher performance. I have only one cpu so i dont need linuxthreads. OK MySQL seems to have installed correctly.

Whoa! Damm! I tried to update php5 from the ports directory and low and behold it installed apache 13 on top of my apache 22! Grrreeaaaatt!

time to go get some more wine

ok I am about to install pcbsd on my laptop in hopes of getting flash to work so I can watch utube and play games here goes nothing...
