@gitcoin & @0xPolygon just RUGGED their Memecoin Competition. An org that prides itself on regen, positive-sum games and a chain aspiring to Aggregate all chains displayed really extractive, negative-sum, untrustworthy behavior. 80% of the projects only getting 5% of the rewards promised. Heres the tea - They said launch your AI memes on POL, drive activity, bring your community and you shall be rewarded. 4 rounds with metrics like 30D trad volume, LP/MC ratio, wallet holder strenght, transaction count to optimize for. Rewards were def juicy, an avg prize was 25000 POL for top 20 projects in every round. Creators took the bait, this attracted over 50 projects with many creating their token/agent for the first time. After nearly 2 months of grinding , 2 day before the comp ends they retrospectively changed the rules in way that only 15% of projects get actual rewards while the rest get 2.5% of what they were promised 🤣. rugging under the garb of saying that we are allowed to change rules as we deem fit, rules that convieniently reduce their payout by 80%. It's hard not to read this as: “The AI Agent memecoin narrative isn’t sticking, let’s cut our losses.” But what about the time, capital, energy, and social capital creators put into ? Instead of honoring our commitment just call them scammers, farmers and fraud cuz thats everyone who isnt me is. This isnt just poor comms or design, its treating builders like guinea pigs to hit some KPIs and cut em loose I’ve been through my share of grant chaos before, but this one felt especially dehumanizing. Builders were farmed for attention, effort, network effects, liquidity and outright duped of their rewards. Jokes on us that we took their bait, built in good faith just to get rugged. Putting this out because it doesnt have to be you next time.
