Haechan found fame as the Main Vocalist and lead dancer of the hugely popular groups NCT, NCT 127 & NCT Dream, 3 of the best-selling most successful Korean Bands of the Era! He's considered an "Ace" because he's a true all-rounder, excelling in singing, dancing and even showing solid sub-rapper skills! He's a standout vocalist, often called NCT's "fingerprint" or most recognizable voice, and is praised for his unique tone, high notes and emotional delivery. He is also a very powerful dancer with great live energy, shining through NCT's intricate choreographies! Haechan is frequently cited as one of NCT's top performers. His fancams often rack up massive views. His iconic stages include "PADO," "Whiplash," "Kick It," & "Boom!" Haechan has been key to NCT's massive success, but is also a hugely successful Solo Artist in his own right right. His debut studio album 'TASTE' (2025) powered by its incredible title track "CRZY," topped Korea's Circle Album and Hanteo charts, achieving platinum certification, and performed strongly internationally, hitting #1 on iTunes Top Albums in over 20 countries, confirming him as a compelling soloist beyond NCT!
It was Haechan's mother who greatly influenced his music taste, introducing him to songs like Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean"! Michael became one of Haechan's role models and was the main reason he became an idol. Shinee's Taemin was also a major influence, inspiring him to audition at SM Entertainment. The First album Haechan ever bought was Shinee's Romeo (2009)! At 13, encouraged by his mother, Haechan attended the SM Saturday Open Auditions (SM Weekly Audition), performing "Baby" by Justin Bieber, "Hello" by Huh Gak, and "Ugly Duckling" by Son Seung-yeon. He was noticed for his impressive vocal performance, especially the Justin Bieber cover which highlighted his unique tone, helping him pass the audition and join SM as a trainee that same year. He trained for about three years before being introduced as part of the SM Rookies pre-debut team in 2014 and eventually debuting with NCT. In 2014, Haechan appeared in Exo 90:2014, a reality TV series in which Exo recreated music videos and performed popular K-pop songs from the 1990s and early 2000s. In 2015, Haechan starred in the Korean revival of The Mickey Mouse Club on the Disney Channel Korea hosted by Super Junior's Leeteuk! Haechan officially debuted as a member of NCT's 2nd sub-unit, NCT 127 with their debut single, "Fire Truck", on July 7, 2015! In 2016, Haechan debuted with NCT's 3rd sub-unit, NCT Dream on the digital single "Chewing Gum" on August 25. On December 13, 2019, Haechan joined the sub-unit NCT U on their track "Coming Home" under the SM Station project. In 2021, Haechan released a remake of the 2006 SM Town's song "Snow Dream" for SM Town's album 2021 Winter SM Town: SMCU Express, and in 2023, Haechan and Taeil released "N.Y.C.T." under NCT U!
On September 8, 2025, Haechan made a huge solo debut with his first full-length album 'TASTE'. The 11-track R&B/soul project, went straight to #1 on Hanteo and the Circle Album Chart in Korea, and was certified platinum for over 400,000 sales units, powered by its title track "Crzy" which reached #11 on the Circle Digital Chart. 'TASTE' earned Haechan his first solo music show win and confirmed him as a distinctive soloist beyond NCT!
Haechan has appeared in numerous group endorsements over the years with PUMA, Lotte Duty Free, Nature Republic, Coca-Cola, Penshoppe, and others. In late 2025, following his solo debut with 'TASTE', he landed his first prominent individual beauty endorsement as the male muse/brand model for NAMING, a Korean cosmetics brand, starring in campaigns for products like their Layered Fit Cushion and Glow Heart Lip Tint. This marked his solo modeling debut and was well-received for perfectly matching his warm, radiant image.
Haechan is known for his consistent and meaningful charitable donations, often supporting disaster relief efforts through major Korean organizations. He has donated millions of won to disaster relief, including ₩100 million for the 2023 Türkiye-Syria earthquake, ₩50 million for the Maui wildfires, and another ₩50 million to the Community Chest of Korea for the wildfire victims in the Yeongnam region of S. Korea. He also supports SM’s UNICEF music education initiatives.
Haechan has come a very long way, now one of K-pop’s most beloved ACEs, topping charts as a Solo artist and consistently touching fans hearts with his generous charity work. We discussed the growing role that artists and cultural figures can play in raising awareness of climate and environmental challenges and inspiring younger generations to engage in sustainability efforts.
We also discussed the potential for future cooperation with him to help strengthen public engagement on climate action and environmental awareness.
