Yeah okay, anyway I here are some screenshots from Shadow of the Erdtree to show off some “inferior visuals”.

THOUGHTS: The Game Awards appears to have bent the rules this year (site updated Nov 15 according to Wayback Machine) to include Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree in the Game of the Year category nominees, when last year, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty was snubbed, despite being superior in every way, and transformative to the main game🚀 I’m genuinely tired of From Software exceptionalism. They create the exact same game every few years, an a dated engine, clunky animations and inferior visuals (save for art direction) and they are given their annual token and praise. Meanwhile, other studios grovel to create something unique and original and superior in every aspect from gameplay to visuals to performance, and yet they are snubbed because they haven’t been deemed “cool” enough to earn that exceptionalism. This isn’t hatred on the games. I played and platinumed Elden Ring, and I liked it, but as a GOTY winner, an expansion has no place being considered a “game” when it cannot even be accessed as a standalone experience, or even from the start of the game. Players are also not excused from this hypocrisy when every time a remake is talked about, it gets discredited as “just another remake” or “just the same game” when it’s actually a meticulously crafted ground-up creation or a classic, that can very much be considered a new game, instead of an expansion, or even a new game that basically copies the same formula of its predecessors 🎤

Nothing represents the American ideal more than Waffle House. I consider Waffle House a more important pillar of American exceptionalism than any state or federal entity that has ever existed. If Waffle House falls it means the world has ended. Thank you so much @WaffleHouse

this janky (and hilarious) open world interaction after beating up some enemies in crimson desert basically sums up a good chunk of my time with it

@GMC_Reviews @BMKing23 Yeah I turned my overclock back on during play and I only got 3 extra fps so you’re not missing on anything other than the board trying to hit 530+ watts haha. The RT with RR is so insanely well parallelized I’m impressed.

@solgaruda @BMKing23 Yes, i have the nvidia app auto-tuning on. I didn't expect it could be the reason for the crashes because it's only +90mhz gpu and +200mhz vram. I'll try without it. Thanks.

From a technical standpoint, I’m kinda disappointed by #CrimsonDesert, especially after all the hype from tech media/outlets and trailers. Don’t get me wrong, the game can look stunning, but that’s mostly when you catch it at the “right angle” and under the right conditions. As soon as you start looking closer, a lot of flaws start to show. There’s constant flickering and shimmering. AMD and Nvidia RR techniques can fix a lot of it, but they come with a very high performance cost that most people can’t afford. Instead of relying on that, the game should have had a more effective denoiser in place to deal with these issues from the start. I also don’t really get why the RR options are locked behind Max Lighting Quality, which is already extremely demanding. Pop-in is another big problem. It’s expected in a large open world game, but here it’s just too aggressive and ends up being really distracting. There are also other issues, like the noise from the displacement mapping, which becomes especially noticeable in motion and adds to the overall shimmering, poor visual/performance scaling across settings, and a subpar DLSS implementation, among other things. Overall, I like the visual style, and I love the ambition behind the game and how they stuck to their in-house tech instead of switching to the much worse UE5 and this is definitely not the most broken launch ever, but it clearly needs more technical polish.

@GMC_Reviews @BMKing23 Does your 4090 have an overclock? If so turn it off. that was the reason it would crash on mine. The RT with RR fully saturates the cores and maxes the card out power wise.

@BMKing23 It's a beautiful game but the pop-ins are awful. For some reason the game crashes on my desktop pc with a 4090 constantly but it runs without any problem on my laptop with a 5090 mobile.

Gamers ask for optimization and become very sad when they get it. The game is at its most visually stable when it is also too difficult to run for most people? Lmao Yes. Like everyone else I want better lods and textures but can we give them credit for staying within a 8gb buffer

@papadrgnz It’s worse than that imo. Saw a tweet with like a bajillion likes that said “making L3 crouch instead of sprint is a war crime” or some shit like that. L3 is also crouch in Skyrim. The most “baby’s first rpg” game in existence. These people are weirding me out.

The screeching about Crimson Desert control scheme is legit Mass hysteria. It’s so unserious. I have no clue what the problem is.

@CrimsonDesert_ It’s really having an overclock that is causing most crashes for me. The game saturates the gpu (good job btw) with RR on completely and slingshot your card clear past its board limits. I couldn’t gain stability until I removed my overclock. Haven’t had a crash since.

🚨 If you are experiencing crashes during gameplay, please make sure you are using AMD driver version 25.9.2 or above and NVIDIA driver version 581.29 or above for optimal performance and stability!
