The Trauma of a Little Ethnic Amhara Boy: A Disturbing Ethnic-Based Feeding System in Ethiopian School.
In a heart-wrenching video footage that has recently surfaced, a little ethnic Amhara boy, approximately seven years old, narrates a distressing tale about the discriminatory ethnic-based feeding system in his school. According to the young boy, who remains unidentified, students are only allowed to partake in breakfast and lunch if they can speak the Oromo language.
The boy explains that the current mayor of Addis Ababa introduced the school feeding program with two conditions: one must learn the Oromo language, and they must use it when prompted during meal times. Failure to respond in Oromo language results in exclusion from the meals. The child, having been forcibly evicted from Oromiya, admits that he once spoke Oromo but has since forgotten it and now primarily speaks Amharic.
This discriminatory practice has sparked concerns about an alleged ethnic apartheid system in Ethiopia, particularly affecting ethnic Amharas. Critics argue that the current government, predominantly led by ethnic Oromos, seeks to replace the Amharic language, often regarded as the language of the colonizer, with Oromo, erasing any traces of Amhara heritage.
The video raises troubling questions about the future of this young boy. Such traumatic experiences can have a lasting impact on their emotional well-being, potentially affecting their future outlook and behavior. Will he harbor feelings of vengeance due to the discrimination he experienced? Only time will tell.
