@solidarityTU

Graduate workers building power across TulaneU. Currently working towards improving healthcare access! If these views were our employer’s, we wouldn’t be here.

Graduate workers at Tulane, tell us how we can build power together! Take our most recent survey to let us know how it's going and what you need most as a grad worker. Then let's build our power together! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI…

Financial concerns erode mental health. How can PhD students be expected to flourish when worrying about finances? Pay PhD students a living wage.

Professors should care, advocate, and move on behalf of fellow exploited workers across the university, including graduate students. But our strategy has to be to support internally at the same time that we fight externally.

Solidarity! @tulane we don’t have a centralized graduate school and so are told that department-level solutions are the only solutions. They aren’t. Abolish the fees so professors can focus on research/teaching instead of making sure graduate students are surviving.
Amrita Myers@CountessCanuck

I'm glad to announce that the IU History Dept will cover the cost of the "int'l student fee" that is required of our int'l graduate students from the university for the 2022-23 academic year. The fee is a hardship, and it is one not imposed on other students. 1/

@llmunro Ooop love a fun prompt! Start with obscure and easy to grow varieties of herbs (lime basil, pineapple sage, fun mint varieties) for muddling or simple syrup infusions. Raspberry vinegar has been a banger. Watermelon and mexican tarragon with soda is VERY good.

Grad workers (contingent faculty too honestly): what prevents/prevented you from getting involved with your union/organizing body? What would get/got you to the meetings?

You know what makes our blood boil (and apparently makes it harder for us to sleep)? Not having fully funded healthcare. Not having a university that takes a strong stance, with material support and real action, on reproductive justice. Having to pay for our on campus gym. Etc!
Tulane Campus Health@TUcampushealth

Exercise is great for your health, but it's important to exercise earlier in the day for at least 30 mins and 3-5 hrs before you plan to go to sleep. Your body falls asleep easier when your body temperature is low or decreasing, and exercising increases your body temperature.

EVERY university has to change. And that is why we organize. Because there is no way out but through. And there is no way through but together.

Caveat: do not stick around if the exploitation, harassment, violence is too much. Not putting up with it is action. And that is 100% your call to make.

@elijahullman Also let’s remember that a living wage is far far from a thriving wage. And when we consider that many grad workers have caretaking responsibilities… not good.

Know your worth and demand to be compensated accordingly, grad workers everywhere! But specifically at Tulane… how much are you making? How does that compare to cost of living?

“Princeton will increase graduate student stipend rates for the coming 2022–2023 academic year by an average of 25% to about $40,000 for doctoral candidates, the University’s largest ever one-year increase in graduate student stipend rates.” #Emory #gradschool #phdstudents

Republicans are all hangry about gasoline pump prices but what about electricity costs? Can state legislators please cap Entergy usage/fuel charge rates? They are straight up robbing us.

A group of faculty engaged in reproductive rights, health, and justice work have drafted a second letter to Tulane’s administration regarding the need for them to respond publicly and implement supports in the wake of the Dobbs decision. We would love for you to sign and help

Fitts will remain as president of @Tulane until 2026.. wonder if he got a raise, for inflation or otherwise. The rest of us didn’t.
