The Acting Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, who is also the Deputy Minister of the @SomaliaMolsa, Hon. Amina Hussein Ali, today took part in a highly successful and well-attended International Labour Day commemoration, organised by the Federation of Somali Trade Unions (@festusomalia) with support from the International Labour Organization (@ILO). The event brought together over 1,000 workers' representatives, government officials and social partners in a strong demonstration of shared commitment to advancing a decent work agenda. It highlighted the central role of workers in sustainable development and reinforced the importance of promoting and protecting fundamental principles and rights at work, including freedom of association, dignity and equality. The discussions further underscored growing momentum towards investment in employment-intensive job creation for decent work and inclusive labour market development. Hon. Amina reaffirmed the government’s firm commitment to strengthening the implementation of labour legislation in line with international labour standards and to advancing policies that support decent work and expanded employment opportunities. She also commended the active and constructive role of workers’ organisations affiliated with FESTU in promoting effective social dialogue and collaboration with government and employers to deliver tangible progress in job creation, skills development and the protection of workers’ rights.

The Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Prof. Salim Alio Ibrow, officially opened the National Sensitisation Workshop on the Adopted National Labour Migration Policy and Private Employment Agencies (PrEAs) Regulations in Mogadishu. The workshop, organised by @SomaliaMolsa and supported by @ILO and @FCDOGovUK, brought together key stakeholders, with strong participation from trade unions represented by @festusomalia and employers represented by @somaliacci. Both social partners played an active role in developing the policy and regulatory framework through a government-led tripartite process grounded in social dialogue. The Minister underscored the importance of effective implementation of these frameworks in line with international labour standards to protect Somali workers abroad, safeguard migrant workers in the country and promote fair, safe and well-managed labour migration.

Prof. Salim Aliyo Ibro, today received at the Ministry’s headquarters a delegation from SOS led by the Organization’s Director, Mr. Abdulqadir Dakane. The meeting was also attended by a Senior Advisor from the Ministry and other officials from both sides, where discussions were held in a professional manner focusing on strengthening cooperation and advancing key programmes that serve the community. The Director General position was formally handed over from the outgoing Director General, Mr. Yusuf Hassan Isack, to the incoming Director General, Mr. Mohamed Saney Dalmar. The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Prof. Salim Alio Ibrow, and attended by senior officials of the Ministry. The Minister commended Mr. Yusuf Hassan Isack for his dedicated service and contributions during his tenure, wishing him continued success in his future endeavors.
