Because their mental illness motivates them to try and commit to their fantasy until it defies reality. If the entire core of having gender dysphoria is becoming manic about grievances toward one's own biology, and wanting to do anything to change it, then I should at least be able to question the legitimacy of 30% of their claims about feeling like they have a penis. The radical ideological movement to normalize gender dysphoria as a legitimate way of feeling and affirming it as a sociological choice is turning a mental illness into a sacred cow. To such a degree that even denying that a man is really a woman labels you as a bigot who isn't tolerant enough to be a good person.

Compared to 60% of the general population of amputees. This suggests that there are neurological differences between these groups, i.e dysphoria is not purely psychological.
