Had an interview today as a backend engineer for a startup based in San Marino ... For submission I built a Go daemon that speaks 64-byte UDP broadcasts with a 3-byte header + Bloom-filter subscription table, plus a Python asyncio SDK that publishes or subscribes in two lines of code.

@benhylak In the future, coding without heavy reliance on AI or even a cursor will be a rare skill. Building that ability now feels like preparing for an edge and I’m already practicing it with minimal AI involvement

i've met a lot of engineers one-shotted by cursor. feels like a drug. they can't think for themselves. they can't write tests. they can't explain their code. they can't write documentation. scary stuff.

Uhhhhhhhhh....... "Can you move to London?" "We want someone to attend conferences and hackathons in SF" "We are not hiring remote currently." "Where are you based of? ... ghosted" "We only want people onsite in Amsterdam" -- I don't like the rigidity of the world. -- 2 options for me: 1. Reduce the bar for quality of the companies. 2. Move to US/ Europe somehow. ( But I kinda don't want to change my country at this point of life )
Ayush Yadav@ayushunleashed

why do my fav companies want people onsite, when the whole job could be done on a laptop from anywhere in the world

we are interviewing around 15 people a day. most people are just... not good. so many cs graduates with 0 career experience, 0 side projects. i've never seen anything like it.

Rejected a candidate today because despite asking them to use LLMs as an aide (but not as the main programmer) and giving them time limits and a loosely constrained problem, they: 1. Could not plan properly and figure out ahead of time that they were going to run out of time 2. Did not use LLMs at all. 3. Could not finish building the system I asked them to build

@immasiddx Indeed, my parents recently gifted me a MacBook instead of an iPhone, and I’ve never been more productive.

As a parent, buying a laptop for your child is a way better decision than getting them a phone. > naturally promotes productivity > reduces distractions (nobody scrolls reels on laptops) > they’ll create more instead of consuming > develops essential life skills

@adnansahinovich @reactnative Just explored AsyncStorage during a recent take-home task for a hiring project, great for simple local storage, but not ideal for frequent writes or synced state In those cases, something like Redux Persist or SQLite worked better

Lexical search is surface-level. Semantic search goes deeper with matching meaning, not just words If you’re building search or AI products, read about embeddings and cosine similarity You’ll level up fast elastic.co/search-labs/bl…

@Hi_Mrinal Dove into semantic search learning how vectors can help match meaning, not just keywords. Before this, I only knew about lexical search, so this shift in approach is really eye-opening
