Childhood NCDs are rising — and the media has a powerful role to play in preventing them. UNICEF India, Elixir Foundation, Doordarshan, and Gujarat Information Department came together in Ahmedabad to build media capacity on NCDs in children and adolescents — from Type 1 Diabetes and asthma to sickle cell disease and obesity. The focus: early detection, reducing stigma, and stronger health communication #ForEveryChild.

#MothersDay

Like four month old Jahvany, every child deserves protection from preventable diseases from the very beginning. Today, Members of the Australian Parliament visited 9 Mile Clinic to see how routine immunization and essential services are reaching families. UNICEF values Australia’s partnership in strengthening health systems for children across PNG. For every child💙

India’s bond with vaccines has been strong and storied. Vaccines have protected generation after generation, with more children now living to see their first birthday, able to go to school, work, raise families of their own, and grow old. These are the lessons we must pass on to the generations to come. #VaccinesWork #WorldImmunizationWeek

A newborn's survival begins with the well-being of their mother. In India, this truth has shaped policy. From Janani Suraksha Yojana to a nationwide network of Special Newborn Care Units — investments in maternal and newborn care are saving lives. Yet globally, nearly half of all under-five deaths in 2024 happened in a child's very first month. 4.9 million children didn't make it to their fifth birthday. India's progress shows what's possible. We call on governments and partners everywhere to invest in quality antenatal care and newborn health, #ForEveryChild to get the start they deserve. 👉 Read More: economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/india/un-…

India’s progress in reducing child mortality shows that putting communities first and building strong systems and partnerships save lives. Let’s build on this momentum and on India’s example to reach every child, everywhere, and achieve progress in child survival. #ChildHealth #ForEveryChild

India is leading the world in child survival, as highlighted in the UN IGME 2025 Report. Since 1990, Neonatal Mortality Rate dropped from 57 to 17 and Under-5 Mortality Rate from 127 to 27, reflecting remarkable progress. This achievement is driven by SNCUs, JSY, JSSK, Mission Indradhanush, and digital tools like eVIN and UWIN, ensuring efficient vaccine delivery, better health monitoring, and stronger healthcare systems. With Ayushman Arogya Mandirs providing comprehensive primary care at the community level, India is paving the way to eliminate preventable child deaths and secure healthier futures for every child. #ChildHealth #NewBornCare #UNIGME2025

Union Minister, Jagat Prakash Nadda (@JPNadda) posts, "India emerges as a leading global exemplar in the UN IGME 2025 report for accelerating child mortality reduction. As per the UN IGME 2025 report, Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) has declined by nearly 70%—from 57 deaths per 1,000 live births in 1990 to 17 in 2024—reflecting sustained improvements in maternal and newborn healthcare services. Similarly, the Under-5 Mortality Rate (U5MR) has registered an even steeper reduction of 79%, declining from 127 in 1990 to 27 in 2024. Key initiatives—Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs), Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK), and expanded immunization combined with robust health systems have been driving this transformation. India’s focussed comprehensive approach on neonatal care has paved the way for eliminating preventable child deaths and securing healthy future for our children."

All of us at UNICEF are devastated and outraged by the killing of our colleague Karine Buisset in a reported drone attack in Goma, DRC. My immediate thoughts are with the family, loved ones & colleagues across UNICEF. Civilians, including aid workers, must never be targeted.
