People really forgot this. Children are not supposed to die. And if they do, we should move mountains to ensure that whatever killed one child can't kill more. Think about toy recalls. We would never let a toy kill 1500 kids before we recalled that toy from every kid.

This time of year I read between ten and twenty college essays a day. You learn to categorize them: a tour of my room, my sports injury, a person that matters to me. A genre I wish I read less is "I survived a school shooting." I've read way too many of those. I read one today.
