@TheCinesthetic It was a 2 hour collective groan from the cringe fest of whatever the hell that film was supposed to be.

@WardoftheStates When I saw the new and improved Death Star had a glaring catastrophic weakness, I started to worry. And Disney proved me wise for doing so. I was hoping to get Star Wars with solid story telling and a long term plan like the MCU Infinity Saga. Got trash instead.

Comparing The Force Awakens versus The Last Jedi. The latter was like a cruel joke played on the audience. Director Rian Johnson even starts the picture with a clumsy “Yo Mama” prank call. It’s like the old Andy Kaufman skits where he deliberately does a stand up routine so bad that the punchline is the comedian is laughing at the audience. The Force Awakens was a bad movie. But at least it was vaguely movie shaped. Like a day old birthday cake you buy at the supermarket. At least you recognize it as a Star Wars flick with the action lazily rehashing old scenes from the original trilogy. TLJ on the other hand was deliberately subversive. Its whole point was to tear down the previous seven episodes. Apparently for no reason other than Kathleen Kennedy’s spite.

My father is a very technical person. Easy to have a conversation with him about orbital mechanics, almost impossible to talk to him about people. He doesn't really go for movies or other media, either. If it's primarily focused on characters and story, he isn't interested. His favorite "movie" is episode 5 of From the Earth to the Moon, because it's about the design and development of the Apollo Lunar Module at Grumman. But when he was young, he watched Star Wars fresh in theaters with his buddies and became obsessed with it. Once I came along, he shared it with me, and it was the only non-technical media we could enjoy together. Anytime a Star Wars movie came out we saw it together in theaters. We saw the re-releases together in theaters. We saw the Prequels together, which we agreed sucked but it was really no big deal. We saw The Force Awakens in theaters and, like a lot of people, we thought it was at least better than the Prequel trilogy, even if it was kind of a retread and a bit silly. By the time The Last Jedi released in theaters, we already pretty much knew it was going to be bad. The reviews were pretty clear about that. But who cares? It's a way to spend an afternoon together and you can at least talk about the movie, everything they could have done better, where they screwed up continuity. It would still be fun, so we went and saw it like we always did. By about the halfway point, I noticed everyone in the family was visibly uncomfortable in their seats. Nobody was having a good time, actually they seemed genuinely unsettled. Nobody wanted to be the first to walk out, either. We sat there like that until the unbearable end of the movie and then filed out of the theater in silence. Actually I think the whole audience was pretty quiet, too. Nobody in my family said a word. Someone suggested food; we'd caught a matinee. That seemed to be the excuse everyone needed to forget about the whole thing. Nobody said anything about the movie. My dad and I haven't talked about Star Wars since, not once.

In a recent interview, Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David were asked to list their top four favorite "Seinfeld" episodes. Jerry Seinfeld said his top four episodes were "The Contest," "The Soup Nazi," "The Merv Griffin Show," and "The Marine Biologist." Larry David said his top four episodes were "The Contest," "The Opposite," "The Puffy Shirt," and "The Pen." Which episodes are in your top four list?

This moment in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) was when I knew the postmodern deconstruction of our culture was reaching its apex. It’s hard to believe now that this was a real scene.

@EliasToufexis Kathleen Kennedy created a sequel trilogy that had utter disdain for what came before it. She could have had a string of 2B movies (and the first 3B box office) but drove the franchise into the dirt to make the force female.

I’m glad to see so many defenders of The Last Jedi suddenly coming out of the woodwork. I think that, outside of the Andor/Rogue One story, it’s the best Star Wars since Empire.

@leepunzel @fandompulse It was wrecked with Episode VII. Not building the sequels around the original characters and establishing new characters to hand off to for the next trilogy was criminally stupid.

Kathleen Kennedy, in her Deadline exit interview, on years of Star Wars fan backlash: "I emphasize that it's a very small group of people, with loud megaphones. I truly do not believe that it's the majority of the fans. And I think we're also in this weird world of where bots can affect things. You have to develop a tough skin. All we can do is put our heads down and do the work." She ran the franchise for 13 years and left blaming bots. Is that an explanation or an excuse?

@LucasSWGirl Rogue One made 70M (75M adjusted for inflation) on its opening DAY. Kathleen Kennedy has to be the most incompetent producer in the history of Hollywood.

Kathleen Kennedy, in an interview, on whether she felt any obligation to the franchise's core audience: "I have a responsibility to the company that I work with. I don't feel that I have a responsibility to cater in some way. I would never just seize on saying, 'Well, this is a franchise that's appealed primarily to men for many, many years, and therefore I owe men something.'" Was she right or is this why she's gone?
