@hardlynormal 2) I ask myself also if my kids can survive better than myself in 20+ years. I worry about the planet being set on fire, and how bad the air quality will be. I get that ppl live and love in environments we cant even fathom, but still.

There’s been a lot of talk about youth mental health since COVID, and that’s a good thing. But we don’t talk nearly enough about mental health for older adults. I’ve said this before, probably more than once, but it’s worth repeating. It’s hard to look toward the future when everything feels so broken. I wanted my later years to be about meaning, purpose, and joy. But then I watch the news of whats happening here in Los Angeles, Trump preparing 500 Marines, and I can’t help but feel like this is just the beginning of even more madness. Everywhere you look, there’s more racism, more hate, more homophobia, more homelessness, more poverty, and billionaires grabbing even more power and money. And on top of all that, we don’t connect with each other like we used to. That basic human connection, it’s fading. Some days, I wish I were in my 20s. At least then I’d have the energy and time to ride this out. But I’m not, and it’s looking more and more like this chaos is going to define the rest of my life.

@hardlynormal *Big hugs* I know the feeling. Ofc I am much younger, and the perspective is different, but I often ask myself how I can justify having kids when the future is so uncertain. It's not just Trump, and ICE, and looming authoritarianism, and everything else you mentioned, but also...

This is ignorant. I'd gladly pay $.35 more for a Double-Double so workers could have a living wage. Another way to look at this is taxpayers pay huge money for the growing homelessness. A little more for a hamburger will save taxpayers money in the long run.

Displaced will be our last scripted film for a while until revenue picks up if it does. Our next movie in the series is "Exausgted', about a caseworker to show homelessness through their lens. The film aims to counter all the myths about nonprofits and homeless services and show the crazy amount of bureaucracy it takes to help someone get into housing! I really hope that we will soon be able to expand programs instead of cutting them, but I do not believe individual donations are coming back.

2/ I should add that it doesn't make sense to produce more films until we can raise funds for impact campaigns to accompany them. Displaced is our best film to date. I’m super grateful for all the individuals who helped make it happen, but without philanthropy's support, we were not able to create an impact campaign to fight the criminalization of homelessness. The potential for significant impact is there—it's just that the funding is not. We reach more people by educating them on homelessness than all nonprofits in the United States combined, and many of them have multi-million dollar marketing budgets. We do everything with tiny budgets. Don't believe me, here's our 2023 impact report invisiblepeople.tv/impact

Invisible People ➤ Imagine Everyone With a Home
“If we really care about homelessness, if we really care about trying to solve a complex issue, then I have to realize that my capacity to serve you has to be rooted in a love that only knows radical acceptance. And if I actually live radical acceptance, if I actually accept that your life is just as valuable as mine, if I am totally anchored in compassion, I realize this work is never going to be a relationship between healer and wounded. It's a relationship between equals. It's only when I know my own darkness that I can be presence and the darkness of others. And when I know that darkness and the presence of others, at least I can say to them, "Hey buddy. I know how to turn on the lights. I know the way out.” ~ Iain De Jong Teaser from @invisiblepeople's NAEH video pod series dropping in April
