President Trump has utterly humiliated Keir Starmer over his Chagos Surrender, sending the Prime Minister reeling with his dramatic intervention. The Government may say it will ‘pause for thought’, but the truth is that Starmer is panicking as his Chagos plan is blown wide open. It’s impossible for the deal to proceed without the support of our American allies, and Labour will soon run out of time to put anything before Parliament. Starmer must accept that this appalling deal to hand British sovereign territory and £35 billion of taxpayers’ money to an ally of China is now dead in the water. The Conservatives have the led the fight against the Surrender and will not stop fighting until it is scrapped once and for all.

I’m not allowed to say it in Parliament, but I can here: today the Prime Minister lied and lied and lied again. And he did so to smear a man defending our veterans in court against the Labour government. Labour have attacked everyone from farmers, to businesses, to veterans, so now they attack David Wolfson, a brilliant KC, to take the attention away from their terrible decisions. There’s a lot of noise from people who couldn’t find Venezuela on a map yesterday. This is clearly a fast-moving and extremely serious situation. I am not going to rush to judgement or speculate on incomplete reports. I’m more interested in what Venezuelans risking their lives for democracy have to say. The UK’s responsibility is to understand the facts, assess where our national interest lies and consider the consequences for Venezuela’s people and for regional and global stability. It is not for us to second guess from afar the motives and evidence behind these events. Let’s hear what President Trump has to say shortly. I will also be watching closely what is said by Venezuela’s democratic opposition.
