the problem with AI-generated content isn’t that just AI was used, but that this content wouldn’t exist at all without AI. after all, the creator isn’t engaged enough to make it by hand. in other words, the creator doesn’t care enough. as a result, AI multiplies things that simply shouldn’t exist in the real world. it multiplies things that nobody needs in the real world.
but at the same time, it makes these things very pleasing to the eye, which creates the (temporary, false) impression that we might actually like them. AI helps sell a chocolate bunny wrapped in beautiful, shiny foil, inside of which - at best - there’s absolutely nothing. and in the worst case, you take a bite, and there’s swamp sludge inside 🤢

there are rare exceptions where AI is used as a tool to complement the artist. such people train their own models, use a mix of different media, and don’t rely on randomness - but they’re few and far between
