Christianity isn’t about our efforts to make a deity forgive us, notice us, bless us with fortune, a good harvest, victory in battle, etc. It is about God’s own redeeming work that reconciled us to Him. Any good works we have the opportunity to do are gifts He has placed in our path, not a ladder we climb towards His approval. Only in Christianity do justice, mercy, and grace coexist perfectly.

@jhow0089 I’m not an anihilationist, but you just made me realize this argument is why people jump through such weird hoops to say that story is not a parable when it so obviously is. Imagine believing Jesus suddenly decided to tell a story about some real dead guys he knows.

The story in Luke 16 is not a parable. It's not called a parable, Jesus uses an actual name, it describes experiences of life after death, and it contains major doctrinal teachings without metaphor.
