In completely expected, right on time news: It looks like SUSE, the world’s oldest Linux company, is about to be sold off. Again. The short-short version of SUSE changing hands: - 2004: Novell purchases SUSE. - 2011: Attachmate purchases Novell (and SUSE with it). - 2014: Micro Focus purchases Attachmate. - 2018: Micro Focus sells off the SUSE business unit to EQT (a Swedish investment firm). - 2021: EQT takes SUSE stock public on the German stock exchange. - 2023: After poor stock performance, EQT de-listed SUSE stock and took the company private again. Which brings us to today, and a report from @ReutersBiz that EQT (known for investing in every business segment under the sun, from shoes to pharmaceuticals) has hired an investment bank (Arma Partners) to pursue a possible sale of SUSE outright. Worth noting: Arma Partners was also involved in SUSE’s purchase by Novell and, later, the purchase by Micro Focus.
