@spacetwinks Yeah. I get that. And again, my basic premise is that there's nothing we can do in the context of a November presidential election to push the Dems left. There are things we can do in other contexts, but not in that one.

The problem with "I'm going to withhold my votes from Dems to get them to move left" is that it reinforces the premise that the ballot box is the solution to all our problems while appearing to reject it.

@studentactivism to the point you've already spoken of, there's a ton of outside things that are important and oft ignored. i just look at voting *specifically* and think "they do not care whether you promise your vote or if you say you won't vote. they have the same takeaway either way."

@studentactivism it's just mostly on the specific matter of voting - "does your vote promised influence dems?" nope! "does WITHHOLDING your vote influence dems?" nope! unless you're part of a group they're already eager to win over, they're gonna do the same regardless vis a vis *voting*.

@studentactivism it certainly seems the most likely pathway is "every national dem is going to keep abusing immigrants more until something so fucking horrible happens it realigns the entire thing" and voting, whether promised or withheld for dems, will continue that pathway anyhow.

@studentactivism well, mine are guesses too. they're just bleak guesses. but they're not really irrational guesses either, unfortunately. CBP is unchained as is and getting worse. ever increasing abuse of immigrants eventually forces a response in kind.

@studentactivism but again, there's also the potential avenue, at least, of "once durbin and pelosi and schumer all fucking die of old age then maybe things can change", which is *something*, i guess. but it's also another 8-12 years of "it's going to keep getting worse anyway".

@studentactivism i put it this way to someone else: kamala would be better than trump at the border. but she's going to be worse than joe. and 2028 kamala will be worse than 2024 kamala. and the 2032 dem will be better than the republican, but worse than 2028 kamala.

@studentactivism seems like we're basically hoping for a fucking miracle out of nowhere. there was big money behind the push for gay marriage. there's nobody doing that for immigrants. it seems to me it's going to get MUCH worse before it gets any better.

@studentactivism ...and the outcome has been "more right wing on the border than bill clinton, normalization and expansion of trump policies". bare minimum: dem leadership are cruel fucking cowards and if given the chance, they will pass that bill that condemns asylum seekers to death.
