A huge thank you to muralist, Judith Baca, for accurately portraying the story of our community & @sparcinla who worked with us to secure these funds. The project begins in 2024 and is anticipated to be completed in 2028, in time for the Olympics in Los Angeles.

Domestic violence did not stop during the pandemic, violence against women increased, hate and racism were fueled. But SPARC did not stop either, we took into people’s homes, virtual art exhibitions and global art movements against gender and race-based violence #socialjustice

The Great Wall sought to recover histories largely left out of history books and heal racial, gender, and class divisions. "I think if it wasn't for this mural for me to have my name on it and to have accomplished something, I don't know where I'd be." -Ernestine Jimenez. #SPARC

"These 1970s murals would speak to issues inside of neighborhoods and communities to transform them and to challenge what was happening," Pete Galindo, director of the @sparcinla’s Great Wall of Los Angeles Institute, told @AjayOrona. trib.al/dq1PGcK

On this rare occasion when the water runs again through the Tujunga wash, our construction team is working on phase 1 of the restoration of interpretative stations and we are reminded that the Great Wall of LA is a tattoo on the scar where the river once ran. #historyofla

We are ecstatic to share that after two weeks of SPARC’s Mural Rescue Team’s efforts, “Hitting the Wall” is now fully visible! The restoration is not yet fully completed, as more touch ups are still neccessary - but we are excited for the incredible progress that has been made!

Judy Baca’s Hitting the Wall mural in #dtla slowly reemerging. Painted in 1984 to celebrate women marathoners allowed in the Olympics, it was whitewashed erasing part of LA history. @sparcinla #chicana #latinxartsall
