@princess_sasuke none offense taken, I have no idea what her fandom does because I try to not interact with them as much as possible. I know that ordinary doesn’t mean non-shinobi, but in this case, it all adds up and fits literary ways of building a character profile

no bc the more I think about it, the more it pisses me off that sakura wears the uchiha symbol. not only does it enforce the patriarchal system on her, it also erases her roots that come from a non-shinobi family, which made her so outstanding and should be smt she’s proud of

@princess_sasuke google the interview, why are you asking me? youre arguing a completely separate thing rn and it’s giving me a headache, we aren’t talking about all konohans potential to be ninjas. we’re talking about how everything we know about her family alludes to them being civilians.

@sparkfae no i really wanna know which interview kishi talked about her family bg specifically. there’s no proof or emphasis in the manga that she came from non-shinobi household. as far as we know, everyone from konoha are capable of being a ninja by birth.

@princess_sasuke her being from non shinobi family makes more sense than her being “normal shinobi” whatever that means, considering her classmates aren’t only from noble clans

@sparkfae compared to uchiha, hyuuga, yamanaka, nara, haruno is probably a non-notable clan which is admirable of her enough. but a non-shinobi civilian family? 🤔

@princess_sasuke well you don’t think so, but I do remember. wasn’t road to ninja literally an au where most characters are opposites of themselves, so if anything, that would be more of an argument in favor of them not being shinobi

@sparkfae i don’t think he ever gave that interview and from the anime road to ninja her parents aren’t civilians either. actually almost all konoha people are shinobi since it’s a military village. and the “ordinary” girl is more or leas about her coming from normal shinobi fam imo.

@LiBay51499 I don’t think Naruto fought for Sasuke’s acknowledgment and recognition, he always had it, knew if, and that’s what kept his fuel to chase him. He was rather trying to make Sasuke admit it, not forget it, and bring him back to him

@sparkfae True but both Naruto and Sakura wanted Sasuke’s acknowledgment, but only Naruto really got it. Sakura can seem aggressive because she treats Sasuke like someone she has to win over( a prize), unlike Naruto.

Sakura vs. Naruto talking about their feelings toward Sasuke. Sakura has the same aggressive expression when she is about to fight, while Naruto has the same happy expression when he was talking to his mother.

@princess_sasuke Kishimoto himself confirmed that in one of the interviews as far as I remember, and they were portrayed as such in the anime, and were not present in the manga + he intended to write her as an “ordinary” girl in contrast to her classmates and sasuke & naruto

@soedore i mean even then, it has nothing to do with colonialism and more to do with the fucked up military system of the shinobi nations. and even if it was, it still doesn’t apply to naruto and sasuke bc neither of them represent the oppressors??

i think that being able to intuit when an author was trying to do something and failed to pull it off is an incredibly important literacy skill to develop and I worry that not enough people have done that

if it’s all intentional then Kishimoto is a depressed genius, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t and he really just unknowingly erased the entire purpose of his story and the build up of his characters. like it’s either a commentary on reality or a generational fumble

like I don’t understand how so many people don’t see that the entire post-naruto part is just about them conforming to the patriarchal heteronormative society they were going against throughout the entire story og story, I’m so pissed

@soedore don’t know about that bc I didn’t read the thing but I see bits and pieces, and it honestly looks more like they just conformed to the tradition of the woman “marrying into” her husband’à family, basically erasing her roots, it’s infuriating that that is what she got reduced to😭

I don’t believe that you, or most people who criticize orientalism in fanart, truly believed that it begins and ends in fandom spaces. Fictionalized, exotified representations-of-representations date back to colonial rule & are very much a symptom of the problem if not a conduit.
