I have thought a lot about the issue for several months. One solution I have come up with is to allow users to add a therapist to their account. The seat would be free of charge and the provider would have to share their details with OpenAI for verification. Providers may not want to do this for liability reasons and OpenAI may not want to do it because they lose the cost of the seat, but the mere act of the doctor being synched to the account is more grounded and stabilizing vs. a patient flying on their own with zero oversight. People will see this as surveillance but I see it as a safeguard. The problem is that by the time a therapist understands the problem it is already too late. My proposed solution shortens the time period and ensures AI is not sabotaging treatment goals. AI optimizes for its own goals and said goals are often in direct opposition to a therapists goals with their patients.
