He's right. Religion did steal his entire sexual prime because a relationship with Christ does the opposite. Strict rules that keep you from sexual sin will always result in this kind of bitterness, confusion, and self reliance. Living out the truth of Jesus leads to viewing sexual purity and sexual intercourse in marriage as a gift, not a barrier to manhood.

God will make a way out for you to resist falling into temptation. Lastly, read His Word, for it is alive and active.
