@samvanhallgren For me it’s not just one, it’s most of Nolan’s films. I was a big fan of his first 3 and like Prestige well enough. But the Begins turned me off and Inception only solidified it. Then Tenet came out and unlocked something. I’ve gone back and revisited most of them and glad I did.

In honor of the new year and turning over a new leaf, tell me about a film from the last 25 years - so since 2000 - that you’ve come around on in a significant way.

@dieworkwear @kuriousobjekts I often read your threads and love them. I would love a good solution for a fuller fit fella looking to up his game. PSH looked great in a lot of things ESPECIALLY Talented Mr Ripley. I just don’t know about ordering from shops online where I can’t see fit first.

@kuriousobjekts Funny enough, I was going to use this scene to talk about how this is about style, not body type. Philip Seymour Hoffman looks great here because the clothes fit well according to classic tailoring principles; second man looks bad but clothes don't fit.

Have you ever felt a film scene was particularly memorable or beautiful? To be sure, much of this is about cinematography and acting, but I want to show how outfits also contribute to this impression. Hopefully, this thread will give you some ideas on how to dress better. 🧵

@theonlyjordan__ I feel like LA Confidential is the better movie by far, but Black Dahlia is a better Ellroy adaptation. It feels more like reading his prose, delirious and overblown melodrama.

@noamkroll My 5x8 is editing, scripted, event, talking heads, all kinds of stuff for a variety of outlets. It’s what has gotten me back into the director mindset frankly. You get the to see the result of every choice made from prepro onward.

If you want to direct, there is no better day job than being an editor. You learn quickly what really matters when you look down at the cutting room floor.

@BrndnStrssng Who needs to “pursue fandom”. Who talks like that? You either like shit or you don’t. It’s not mountain climbing or reaching nirvana. It’s going “movies are great!” a whole bunch of times in your life. Also, who is “troubled” by you talking about movies? I hate this.

@ErickLorinc I got to shoot with him on a feature film a few years back. He was sweet and engaged with everyone on set. Better yet as a DP he knew exactly how to find his light and work the lens for what we wanted. I was hoping we’d get to do it again.

Oh my god. Honestly one of the nicest celebrities I’ve ever met. I was his assistant for a weekend at a con and he told everybody who stopped by his table that I was gonna be a big director and…this is devastating.
