Sometimes Latino students deal with additional factors whether it be poverty, discrimination, or less parental involvement because parents might have limited understanding of English. Empower the students in the classroom to prepare them for their future. #gcceduc

It was great to learn through @missarnold10 about teaching to Asian students in the classroom. It is important to not apply stereotypes like being the "model student" and instead get to know them individually and celebrate who they are and their culture. #gcceduc

@ChrisEmdin I am currently reading your book and find myself learning numerous things that have helped me grow as a future educator. One question I had was about cogens. What are some of the main tips and things to watch out for when implementing them in your classroom?

A4: I think students would benefit from the tool, Immersive Reader. It provides students with aloud reading of texts and can translate the text. #ellchat

@HSeslteacher I am surprised to hear how much choice there is for students. This is important in focusing on student's need, like @KarenNemethEdM said, there are other factors that are currently impacting the children.

A3: There is a great deal more flexibility to grading right now. Students have a say in continuing coursework or not if they were satisfied with their grade before school closed. #ELLChat

@specht_edu @jmat_esol A2: I think connecting learning to real life, explaining how it helps outside EL class, centering it around topics of interest to students, and giving them choice are places to start. That's a tall order in our quick shift to online learning, though. #ELLChat

#ellchat A2 - We have gone to credit/no credit for 2nd semester. Teachers used to using grades as leverage and motivation are finding that students are less motivated. Go figure.

@jmat_esol A2: Yes, I've heard a similar comment, Jeff! We have an opportunity to restructure based on intrinsic motivation and reconsider our grading practices. #ELLChat

At Grove City College, we have the same expectations of completing work and being graded for different assessments. Sometimes our tests are open note but timed. #ellchat

I learned today that there are NUMEROUS tech. tools for all types of different students in the classroom! I encouarge everyone to adhance education by using these tools and many more online!! #gccedu @SFecich

For students who may not be fluent in English, Microsoft has a setting to create subtitles during a presentation in any language needed!! #gccedu @SFecich

Another AWESOME tool is classroom screen that aids with numserous things in the classroom. One example is classroom managment with timers and clocks to show time! #gccedu @SFecich
