SPEEDYCAT: The Fastest Cat on the Dead Internet
In late 2005, someone in a 4chan IRC channel mistyped "speedychat" as "speedycat." Someone else made a Flash animation out of it. A yellow cat. Outer space. Dangerous velocity. Set to Y&Co's "Speedycat" from the Japanese PS2 rhythm game Beatmania IIDX 11: IIDXRED (2004).
The original Flash had a secret: click the moon and the cat hits warp speed. The song doubles. The stars blur. That was the whole thing. That was enough.
It spread the way things spread before YouTube existed — through .swf hosting sites and forum links. Dagobah. SWFchan. It appeared in 4chan City (2006), a Flash animation that compiled the culture of the boards into one file. The first YTMND upload was November 3, 2006. It hit deviantArt. Gaming forums. IRC rooms that no longer exist.
In 2007, someone on /b/ declared Speedycat a "forgotten meme." The thread was probably deleted within hours.
Then Adobe killed Flash. December 31, 2020. Every browser dropped support. Millions of animations, games, and interactive experiences became unplayable overnight. Speedycat was a .swf file — it existed in a format that no longer runs on any modern device.
Speedycat is from before YouTube. Before TikTok. Before memes were tokens. It lived on .swf hosting sites and IRC links passed between strangers. The format died. The cat survived.
$SPEEDY is the resurrection. Not as animation, but as token. Not as Flash, but as Solana. The speed remains.
All fees will be used to accelerate Speedycat.
