So Keir Starmer says we have choose between NHS funding or inheritance tax relief for farmers but yet there is a gigantic pipeline of funds for Ukraine and carbon capture machines. Disingenuous and shameful hypocrisy.

All at Huddersfield Town are profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of Denis Law. A legend of not only our great Club, but an immortal of the sport as a whole, he will be deeply missed and his memory cherished by us all. Our collective thoughts are with Denis’ family and loved ones at this time. Once a Terrier, always a Terrier 💙 #htafc

We’re deeply saddened by the news that our supporter, Denis Law, has died with dementia. We’ll be forever grateful that Denis and his family raised not only money for Alzheimer’s Society, but a great deal of awareness too. Our thoughts are with all his friends and family 💙

If Keir Starmer had said before the general election that he would remove the winter fuel allowance from millions of pensioners, add inheritance to family farms and family businesses, council tax & energy price increases, raise university tuition fees, plaster mass-scale solar panels on thousands of acres of prime farmland despite huge local community objections, spaff £22bn of taxpayers’ money on carbon capture machines, give £3bn a year of taxpayers’ money to Ukraine, betray WASPI women, hang out with BlackRock, pledge a 20% cut in meat & dairy and get exposed for receiving over £100,000 worth of freebies - he almost certainly wouldn’t have won. He duped the electorate. An utterly shameless display of snake oil political salesmanship. And still he lectures all of us in that gratingly sanctimonious manner of his like we are all somehow the problem here.

Life's a gong-fest for Keir Starmer's new investment minister Poppy Gustafsson, who was ennobled in October as she took the job and has now had her 2019 OBE upgraded to a CBE for "services to cybersecurity.” Given Baroness Gustafsson OBE CBE's role at the heart of one of the UK's largest corporate frauds, one may wonder if she is less an entrepreneur who knows about growing business and more a practitioner of the less economically productive dark arts of creative accounting. This is vacuous — and factually incorrect. One of the Tories’ few decent legacies was to position the UK as Europe’s leader in AI, behind only US and China globally. Of course when K Starmer takes Britain back into the EU’s regulatory regime, which has stifled AI on the continent with many AI companies leaving, that lead will be lost.
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer

It's important to me that this Labour goverment improves your life and your community in ways you actually notice. Al has enormous potential to do that. While the Tories stifled growth and innovation, my government will use Al to turbocharge our Plan for Change.

Three more survivors speak out here to @BBCNews about their abuse in Oldham, one of whom is being supported by @TMOFCharity What isn’t made clear here is that in the 2022 local enquiry set up by @MayorofGM Andy Burnham, only ONE survivor’s voice was permitted to be heard by the review team. And it wasn’t any of these three survivors. As I’ve said previously, unlike in The Augusta (Manchester) review 2020, and The Rochdale Review, 2024, I had not worked on any child abuse cases in Oldham whilst in @gmpolice and therefore back then, had no way of contacting them, unlike in the other cases. I was finally allowed to take the only only Oldham survivor I knew to speak to them and her account was consequently included. But that was the ONLY one. And even more shocking was that @OldhamCouncil had told the review team that under no circumstances must this survivor be approached for fear she may commit suicide if they did, which was a total lie. Power in the hands of the wrong people is very dangerous, and I think this story shows how the voices of those who have a right to be heard have been silenced for many years. And they are, finally, finding their voices, being heard, and fighting back….. And all credit to them all! Xx bbc.com/news/articles/…

Today is Plough Monday, the first Monday after Epiphany. This was traditionally the first day back at work after the Christmas holiday, and it was celebrated by blessing tools of work - a way of starting off the new year well, but also an excuse for some last Christmas festivity!
