Haidt said nothing when his colleagues at NYU faced career cancellation for protecting their students’ right to protest or shielding kids from riot cops. he’s not on the forefront of anything except masturbatory centrist conferences where these guys talk about how brave they are
Benjamin Ryan@benryanwriter

NYU professor @JonHaidt, who has stood at the forefront of the movement to challenge academia’s culture of suppressing the free exchange of ideas, is facing a campaign to cancel his graduation address. nytimes.com/2026/05/13/us/…

Horseshoe theory of Marxists who keep locating the origins of capitalism further and further in the past; mainstream economic historians who don't think there is a pre-capitalism

@AlisonB916 praising Tejón Ranch & the Irvine Company lol, they yearn for suburban central planning done by the Bluth family instead of the state

I gotta say, Abundance giving up on anti-sprawl, anti-greenfield, pro-infill policy is the kind of race-to-the-bottom politics its critics warned about like a decade ago. it's the one thing I liked about them, incidentally

There is nightmare blunt rotation and then there is the nightmare blunt rotation’s nightmare. Kati Porter & Ezra Klein co-signing Network States is the inception level, turducken, horror dream within a dream conversation I never needed to know existed.

Homevoter hypothesis is a post facto justification for behavior rooted in irrational discrimination with no real empirical basis. Planning will remain an unbearably white discipline until it dispenses with both Fischel and Tiebout.

Landlords should support robust code enforcement because the person hurt most by a milker after tenants is the next buyer. Neglecting a building is profitable for the milker at the expense of literally everyone else, including conscientious landlords who fave unfair competition.

Further I think if you find the attempt made to humanize homeless people through the term “unhoused neighbors” alienating because it’s a neologism you’re Evil and need to be sent back to kindergarten to learn about kindness.

Carceral urbanism is not popular! People like Adams and Lurie win by lying about their positions.

Guys guys @TheEconomist has figured out how to solve the housing affordability problem! Turns out we just need to change our zoning laws. Per a Goldman Sach’s study—presumably done of the behest of its institutional investor clients—“two-thirds of the national housing shortfall would disappear” if we relaxed the zoning rules! (Never mind what the San Francisco Fed paper said about the irrelevance of housing constraints.) Abundance Grifters gonna grift.

The Debt Collective 🟥
Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts is set to close. But this isn't just about enrollment—it's about institutional debt and who owes what to whom. We wrote about the closure here—and why creditors' being made whole punishes students/faculty/staff. masslive.com/opinion/2026/0…

I looked at both these landlords, which have heavily overlapping strategies and geographies, and both of which have disproportionately evicted Black tenants in Los Angeles. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Two of the largest landlords in the county are poised to merge, together they would own >150K rentals. As REITs these wall street landlords are exempt from automatic merger review (just as they are from corporate taxes). I think regulators should take a look at this anyway.
