Ultimately with both mythology and comics it comes down to a perceived "out of date" view on the source material. Like this is stuff that's so old and it's specifically prose so it has the notion of being hard to read.

There's a similar sentiment for comic books and their adaptations.
People are more likely to turn to fan fiction than the actual source material.
