Wetherspoons Carpet of the Week

#WCOTW is The Steel Foundry, Sheffield. Appropriately titled for its city, this carpet is a metallic, jagged, sharp number that instantly catches the eye. Using an appropriate colour tone, the angular lines are smartly bordered by an orange that instantly elevates. Score: 7.7/10

#WCOTW is The Old Chapel, Darwen. I like this one an awful lot. Not only is the pattern interesting and complex, its uniformity is enhanced by the great colours used throughout. Accenting the good and purple with blue and green is a stroke of genius. What a carpet. Score: 8.4/10

#WCOTW is The Moon in the Square, Bournemouth. I don’t know about you, but I don’t see a moon anywhere, let alone in a square. Don’t get me wrong, the flower pattern has it’s charms, but I can’t help but feel mislead. Throw in the boring colours too, and it hurts. Score: 4.2/10

#WCOTW is The Friar Penketh, Warrington. I like this. It’s like walking into a tartan record shop and I’m all for it. The background colour has intricate details I enjoy, while each oval shape features a pattern I can get behind. I would walk 500 miles for this. Score: 7.3/10

#WCOTW is The Moon and Spoon, Slough. Really like the colour scheme used here. That dark teal tone makes a wonderful background for the bronze pattern to stand out on. While the design could be more interesting, sometimes less is more? Score: 7.6/10

#WCOTW is The Swan & Castle, Oxford. Now there seem to be plenty of castles here, but as for swans, I’m not so sure. Fine, there are some wings in the castles, but are they swans?? Dubious. Aside from this oversight, a very nice colour scheme but I feel misled. Score: 6.4/10

#WCOTW is The Ivory Peg, Chelmsford. Well this carpet has no care for idioms does it? Giving not one damn, the pattern features both ROUND and SQUARE holes, pegs be damned. Aside from that, some nice colour combinations but the background patterns are a tad chaotic. Score: 6.4/10

#WCOTW is The Miles Thompson, Kendal. This carpet is a quadrilateral dream. With rectangles and squares galore, you’ll have no difficulty finding an edge to this carpet. The colours all work perfectly well enough, yet I can’t help but find this carpet a smidge dull. Score: 5.5/10

#WCOTW is The Mardi Gras, Manchester. Quite a stylish carpet here, with an elegant colour scheme which befits the pattern. The overlapping hearts and flora interchange effortlessly, making this a carpet you want to admire rather than stand on. Score: 8.8/10

#WCOTW is The Gatekeeper, Cardiff. This flame like pattern has been graced with a floral touch, which allows the colour scheme to stand out. The elegant swooshes create a pleasing pattern, even if they do slightly resemble pencil shavings. All in all a good carpet. Score: 6.5/10

#WCOTW is Thorn’s Farm, Yate. I’m working in Yate today, and walked past this spoons. Rather than be greeted by a carpet, this monstrosity awaited me. Not a thread of yarn in sight, an absolute travesty in its place. Sickening. What would Jesus think? Truly awful. Score: 0/10

#WCOTW is The Figure of Eight, Birmingham. While it might not be as eye-catching as others, this starry floral pattern has a charm that goes further than your standard spoons carpet. With a tasteful colour scheme, this is a decent entry. Good work by all involved. Score: 7.2/10

#WCOTW is JJ Moon’s, Tooting. Tired, boring, unimaginative. Not just this carpet, but this entire branch of spoons, which is in a sorry state. The flower is a vain attempt at charm but ultimately falls flat. I’m just not a fan, and wouldn’t visit again. Score: 2.5/10

#WCOTW is The King’s Head Inn, Salisbury. This falls into the category of a fair amount going on, but it’s difficult to make out exactly what. The pattern is intricate and stylish in its own way, but completely let down by the colours chosen. A shame of a carpet. Score: 3.8/10

#WCOTW is Shakespeare’s Head, Holborn. Fitting into the genre of carpets that match the name of the pub, the feature of quills is a nice touch that adds a sense of flourish to this carpet. Though the colours could be more exciting, it allows the pattern to shine. Score: 6.5/10

#WCOTW is The Sir Walter Scott, Edinburgh. An airport spoons with a carpet, what a result! That alone makes for a good score but the decadent regal design and fantastic colour scheme makes this a golden effort. Smart, elegant, and far grander than a spoons deserves. Score: 8.8/10

#WCOTW is Grover & Allen, Sudbury. A nice combination of colours characterise this week’s entry, as the full range of the red family is put to work. The wispy pattern has its charms, but otherwise it is not as memorable as you’d hope. A nice try,!but nothing more. Score: 6.3/10

#WCOTW is The Rocket, Putney. An elegant stylish design here that utilises the colour scheme effortlessly. The contrast between the navy and gold is a classic, while the burgundy feature adds a fantastic touch. One of the best yet. Score: 8.9/10

#WCOTW is The Coliseum Picture Theatre, Cleethorpes. A fusion of styles going on in this carpet, with a more traditionalist pattern melding effortlessly with a fun colour scheme within. The oranges and pinks are a lovely touch and elevate the carpet well, very nice. Score: 7.5/10

#WCOTW is The Tichenham Inn, Ickenham. Lovely purple undertones at play here, with the various shades contrasting wonderfully against the gold pattern. With some clever detailing at play it’s more than first meets the eye, and makes for a nice carpet. Score: 8.2/10
