The Government of India has begun nationwide testing of its indigenous Cell Broadcast System to deliver instant disaster alerts directly to mobile phones during emergencies like earthquakes, tsunamis, lightning strikes, and other natural disasters. Over the coming weeks, people may receive test alerts in English, Hindi, or regional languages. These are only trial messages, designed to strengthen India’s emergency communication network and improve public safety through faster, location-based warnings.
