Nice article about Nobu MIzumoto’s @nobuakiMZMT great new paper on termite tunneling behavior.
Entomological Society of America@EntsocAmerica
A researcher studying termites' digging techniques says that understanding individual roles in collective activities can shine a light on the evolution of such behavior and how social insects perform simple tasks to ultimately construct complex structures. entomologytoday.org/2020/08/19/dig…

Part 3 in our upcoming opus for alternative mechanisms to explain speed–accuracy tradeoffs in sequentially sampling ants. We have lately been interested in mechanisms that predict finite latency even for hardest problems. So Gabby turned gambler's ruin into deliberation model!

Wow, such a creative #abs2020 talk from Maria Navas-Zuloaga! When deliberation stops: A model for quorum sensing in ants that bounds latency for hard decisions with Stephen Pratt, @TedPavlic @AnimBehSociety #collectivebehaviour

This is it, folks--today's the day. We close out Season 2 with our Student Spotlight Episode, featuring @HerdingCats10, @AndrewBurchill, @RDemree, & @jayhagani13. Tune in this afternoon for 4 STELLAR conversations with some seriously bright students.

@AndrewBurchill The key thing is a good metal insert to form the mask to your nose. Most masks have bad ones or none at all, so I have taken to removing one from a good-quality disposable mask and putting it into my cloth masks.
English

Does anyone have suggestions for reusable #masks that accommodate people with glasses? I hate when my glasses fog up, and I'm running out of semi-disposable masks...
Also, what are some cool patterns, designs, etc? I might as well treat this as a fun fashion accessory...

My first paleontological paper is out! By analyzing fossilized fish group, we found the traces of interaction rules for coordinated collective motion. Here is the link royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…

Published today! Ant-pant sociometry details the intimately intertwined biology of the symbiosis. Plant traits correlate with the colony growth, how ants are distributed in the tree, and the size of the workers, but are independent of colony personality. rdcu.be/bdRCT

@TheAntlady @AndrewBurchill Impressive. Too late for mine I guess, but at least it’s in a pretty place

Slipping over the waterfall at Little Crystal Creek, my ONLY PAIR OF GLASSES fell 12 feet to the bottom of the pool.
I *NEED* my glasses for this field research and Oz doesn't do quick lens making...
So we got scuba gear and went diving! Yabbies chewed em, but they're fine!
